“When opportunity presents itself, don’t be afraid to go after it.” – Eddie Kennison
Bella had returned to work. She stood in her office staring out the window wishing she was home with Aunt Bonnie. Her assistant interrupted her thoughts to tell her corporate was on the phone for her. Bella ran to her desk to grab the phone. Hello, this is Bella. Good morning Bella, this is Mike Smith with the corporate office, I wanted to follow up with you on your transfer request. Oh yes sir thank you for calling. Well we do not have a Director of Operations position open where you have requested. Bella felt her heart sink. Then she could hear herself saying, what did you say? We believe you are ready for a promotion and we have a Hotel President's position open at our new hotel if you are interested. Oh yes sir, yes, thank you! We would like for you to start in two weeks. Will that be possible? Yes sir. I will go to Human Resources to file the transfer papers as soon as we are done. Thank you again for the opportunity. Bella could hardly believe it. She was so excited she could barely contain herself.
Bella had been busy preparing for her transfer and move. She had lined up some apartments to look at this weekend. She would fly home, look at the apartments and come back as soon as possible to pack. She decided to surprise her family with the news once she was settled in.
Bella flew in early to tour apartments downtown. The first apartment she looked at was close to work but way too small. She had liked the location but felt it lacked character. She went to tour the second apartment. The property itself was nice. It had a huge crystal-clear pool, state of the art fitness center, cozy clubhouse and most importantly was quiet. She hoped the apartment itself was just as nice. She entered the apartment to find a spacious open floor plan with tons of character. As she walked across the beautiful hardwood floors, she noticed the old antique doors and crown molding, granite counter tops, walk in closets and the huge soaking tub. It was absolutely beautiful, and she loved it. She decided this was the one. It was well worth the extra ten minutes to work and back as well as the extra hundred dollars per month. She could not believe how quickly things were coming together. Again, she thought about fate and all the changes she was making. She was still nervous but now the excitement and reality of the changes she was making was starting to set in. She was actually doing this.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the glaring ring of her phone. It was Calista. Hello. Hey Bella, I hope I did not catch you at a bad time. Oh no. I can take a break for you. Great, I wanted to let you know that I was going to go see mom and Abigail this weekend. The kids are coming with me. We were hoping you could get away for a visit. Bella smiled; this would be a perfect time to tell everyone about the changes in her life. I will see what I can do Calista. Great. I have got to go prepare dinner for the kids. I hope we get to see you this weekend. Love you!
Bella smiled as she hung up the phone. She felt like she had gotten off a sinking ship and sunlight was shining down on her now.
