“Don’t know. Longer than me. Before I took over the place, I guess.” Bass turned around to face the group of drinkers. He smoothed out the wrinkles that had collected in the middle of his suit jacket, and said in a loud, professional voice: “Anyone here know this man?” He held up the picture and waited for a response. He added, “His name is Edward Roberts.” There was still no response. The men studied their drinks instead. Bass continued with a different approach. “He shot a ten pointer last November and won a five hundred dollar prize from the township of Richman. I’m sure he would appreciate whoever would point me in his direction.
