—Day 5—Bass was at his desk early the next morning to conclude the case. He had made several calls earlier. One was to Officer Johnson to bring in Angeline’s boyfriend, Rank Karnicke. Bass was in the process of phoning Mrs. Ly to ask her to come in also when Macky entered.
“How’d it go?” Macky asked.
Bass raised a hand to silence him for a moment while he finished the conversation with Mrs. Ly.
When Bass hung up the phone, he turned to Macky and said, “Good. Karnicke and Ly are both on their way in.”
