Preface

493 Words
Is there really that one person in the world, without whom your life feels incomplete? That person, who may have nothing to do with beauty, status, or how long they can stay with you, yet they are your lifelong regretless choice. Your unparalleled one. If such a person exists, then once your hands are intertwined, never let go. Years ago, Faye Wong shed her glamour and willingly lived a simple life in a Beijing courtyard, doing laundry, cooking, and emptying spittoons, finding joy in the ordinary. Years later, their paths diverged, and Lin Xi wrote the song "Butterfly" for her. Although the song never became a massive hit, it captured both strength and solitude. Butterflies cannot cross the sea, and no one has the heart to blame them. Give me a moment of love for you and a lifetime to let you go. It turns out that time cannot withstand close scrutiny, and when flowers bloom fully, it signifies the end of their blooming. In the end, butterflies cannot cross the sea. Just like our love. Zhou Huai'an said, "Ye Bai, Ye Bai, are you truly mine? Never knowing longing, now consumed by it, what a feeling this is." Lu Youyan said, "Xiao Bai, our love is like a journey. The train passes each station, and no matter how beautiful the scenery, there comes a moment of arrival. I reveled in joy, so much that in the moment of separation, I couldn't tell you those words spoken a thousand times. Love need not last forever, as long as its fragrance lingers. Absence doesn't mean severance; just remember our smiles when we first met." Gu Yebai said, "Yan, don't you know? When your eyes close for a moment, my world ends." Zhang Lei said, "Yan, I will never attend another art exhibition. Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, no. I saw the most beautiful painting in G City, 'Butterflies Need Not Cross the Sea.'" Yes, who says butterflies must cross the sea? Momentary beauty is enough. So, I emerged from my cocoon not for rebirth or to cross the sea but to have met you. Even if my wings break and my life ends, I'd drown in your embrace. This is a story filled with suspense, innocence, heartbreak, and deep affection. Perhaps it is greedy, as this little butterfly seeks to convey too much—first love, love itself, uniqueness, cherishing, life. If my writing falters, please forgive me. No more words; I dedicate this little piece to those people who have been there all along. To you, who have always read my work. To those who have experienced or are about to experience first love, to those who keep watch over love, and to those who have someone to cherish. If one day, someone casually opens it and sees faint overlapping shadows within, I hope it brings you a gentle smile. Time passes, strangers fill the sea of people, but those moments are no more.
