DESMOND'S APARTMENT POV DESMOND My uncle left shortly after our conversation. Patrice looked worried as she helped him back into the car. I couldn't look at her as they left. I sat in the office for a few more minutes before leaving. I was torn between wanting to be away from the bank and away from the place I knew Nathaniel was waiting for me. I was so close to true happiness that I could reach out and touch it. But I had a bigger duty to my uncle, to the bank I was wed to. I ignored Nathaniel's messages as I made my way home.
