Chapter 5

Kelvin opened the envelope and to his surprise, it was filled with transfer of shares contracts of companies owned by everyone present.

With surprised, Kelvin asked, “What is this?”

“This, Mr. Johnson, is our token of appreciation from us and our respective families. We have all transferred a portion of our various companies to you.” Replied Johnny Cage of Black Panther Group.

Seeing the approval nods from the others, he continued, “We have all benefited from you one way or the other, this is what we deemed befitting for you.”

Carolina continued, “ Mr. Johnson, this is a gift to you. We hope you would accept it.” She looked around before continuing, “But there is another reason for all of us coming here .”

“ I would no longer stand on ceremony, please continue, miss Cross”

Everyone in the room let out a sigh of relief.

“Mr. Johnson, you should be familiar with…”

It was close to midnight when the banquet ended.

Kelvin walked out of Golden city feeling emotional. Earlier today he was still worrying planning on how he could rebuild himself. But who would have thought that after all these years, his investment in those people and companies proved to be a wise choice. He was glad that at his lowest point when he was lost, he was able to find an olive branch to hold.

Now he would be able to rebuild himself and seek revenge from his family.

Jade who was waiting outside Golden city saw Kelvin come out and immediately called out. She wanted to apologize to kelvin. Anyways, she didn’t have much faith that she would be able to keep her job. With her being smart, she realised that if she wanted to keep her job, it would depend on Kelvin’s attitude towards her.

“Uhm, Kelvin, can you hold on a second?” a familiar voice snapped kelvin from his thoughts. Turning around kelvin found that the voice belonged to Jade.

Jade soon caught up with kelvin as he stopped, “I would like to apologize for how I have treated you.”

“there is no need.” Kelvin replied.

Hearing this Jade was panicked as she thought kelvin still had a grudge against her, with such thought she added, “I apologize for how Selina treated you. I hope this…”

Kelvin raised hand cut her off, “I know what you want to say. I hope what happened today wouldn’t get to the wrong people.”

As if on cue, a Maybach slowly stopped beside Kelvin. Carolina got out of the driver’s seat and opened the door for Kelvin.

Seeing Carolina driving the car away, Jade stood there for a while, deep in thought, she decided to call friend.

“Jade, you finally have time to contact me.” Selina’s cheerful voice came out of the other line, “Whats up. Did you get the promotion?” She immediately asked her friend.

“About that..” Jade responded, “ I met your husband, Kelvin…”

“Don’t mention that good-for-nothing. I don’t want to see him again. He didn’t cause any troubles for you did he?” Selina immediately cut Jade off when she heard her mention Kelvin.

‘Selina, what kind of opportunity did you just give up on’.

Jade recalled all the moments when Selina would make fun of Kelvin in front of her friends, saying all sorts of things. She even claimed that they were both from different worlds.

‘Indeed, you are both from different worlds. If it was not you’re love of vanity. You would have been able to truly become an elite.’ Jade thought as she ended the call went back into Golden City.

Soon, the Maybach headed back towards the neighbourhood where the Takyi mother and daughter duo lived. He had Carolina drop him of here because he was here for his belongings. Seeing the familiar house in front of him. Kelvin was filled with emotion. His time was up and he had repaid his debt to old man Takyi for his kindness.

“Young master, I hope you can think about what we discussed.” Carolina said she Kelvin got out of the car.

“I will consider it, miss Cross. Thank you for your help.” Kelvin responded .

“You’re welcome. See you tomorrow.”

Kelvin watched the car drive out of the neighbourhood before heading into the house. He was still conflicted on how to treat the family but after some thought he decided to continue with what he had been doing for the past three years ago.

He calmed himself and headed into the house.

“Kelvin, you rubbish! You let us lose face today in front of the old man. You have finally decided to return” Georgina scolded angrily as soon as Kelvin walked into the house, “ How dare you secret record our conversation and send it to the old man. Now the old man, has been calling me nonstop demanding an explanation.”

Selina who was sitting beside her mother also yelled, “I thought you would finally become self-aware and leave our family. But who would have thought that you would be this thick skin.” Pointing a finger at kelvin, “let me tell you, no matter what the old man says, I’m divorcing you. Don’t think I don’t know of the time period of the contract marriage.”

“That’s right. don’t think you can use the old man to cling onto our family, you good-for-nothing.” the mother-in-law said, “ In a few days, on the old man’s seventieth birthday would be the day the marriage contract expires. See if I don’t have you guys divorce.”

Kelvin just stood there listening to the two shouting. He found the situation very funny. If they knew about his background, how would the mother and daughter duo behave in front of him.

‘Perhaps it was because they didn’t think I could bring them the same benefits as young master Zenith’ Kelvin thought as he looked at them.

Not saying a word, Kelvin headed into his room, or rather the basement.

Seeing that kelvin didn’t react to their taunts, the two became more angry to the extent that they could not say a single word.

“Just you wait” Selina said as she immediately calmed her mother.
