When Grace finally arrived home, she felt a wave of relief wash over her as she saw her parents waiting for her in the living room.
"Hey, sweetie," her mom said with a warm smile. "How was your day?"
Grace forced a smile and tried to act casual. "It was fine," she said, not wanting to give anything away.
But as she sat down on the couch, she couldn't help but feel the sweat trickling down her back. She knew her secret was out, and it was only a matter of time before her parents found out.
"Why are you sweating, Grace?" her dad asked, raising an eyebrow.
Grace felt her face flush with embarrassment. She knew she couldn't keep it from them any longer.
"I, uh, I went for a run," she muttered, hoping they wouldn't press her further.
But of course, they did.
"A run?" her mom echoed, clearly skeptical. "In this heat?"
Grace shrugged. "I just felt like it. I wanted to clear my head."
Her parents exchanged a look, and Grace knew they weren't buying it. She could feel the guilt and shame weighing heavily on her chest, and she couldn't wait for this whole thing to be over.
The next day at school, Grace tried to act like everything was normal. But as she walked towards her classroom, the guy in front of her turned around and gave her a knowing look.
"Why did you do it, Grace?" he asked bluntly. "Do you have a crush on me?"
Her classmates were thrilled and shouting by what they heard the guy say. Grace felt her heart sink. Did everyone know? Had they all seen her embarrassing display?
"I just..." she struggled to find the words. "I don't know. It was stupid."
The guy just shrugged and turned back around, leaving Grace to wonder how many people had witnessed her humiliation. She couldn't wait for this to be over, so she could go back to being invisible.
