Xavier's POV: My father picked me up at the bus stop. I had been avoiding him and Mom since she told me about college. I can't believe Dad is moving to Los Angeles in less than a year without telling me. What about my brothers? They have their own lives, but what about me? As Dad drove, I stared out the window. He didn’t try to start a conversation—he knew better than to speak when I was angry. “Hungry, buddy?” he asked, or maybe not. “You can’t ignore me forever,” he continued as I clenched my jaw. “When we get home, I’ll explain why I chose to do this.” Why was he still talking?
