We could not outrun them, even by car. It would only cause accidents, and accidents could cost us our lives. I went out of the car, my chest heaving, seeing my doom. Thank heavens that we were on an open field, with no other cars but us, no passerby that could get dragged into this situation. My knees wobbled at the sight of them. Fighting one or two of them was hard. Seeing them flock above me, as if creating a barrier, caging us in, made me feel all kinds of terror. They were like human-sized birds, capable of harm and torture. The devil must have been impatient about the deal, pushing me to do it now or he would have my soul for good. If my physical body were harmed and I died, my soul would never escape hell. So would Erin’s. But killing would be a sin too. So I either go to hell…
