OFFICER PAIN IN THE Ass lifted the back of the SUV. Warren's heart stopped. He flexed his wrists, straining against the flimsy zip ties. This was it. Wolf rumbled, ready for action. Squawking from the cruiser turned the cop's attention to the radio. The dispatcher rambled on in police jargon. “Can we go now?” Matt asked in a worried tone. He was still sitting on the grass at the side of the highway. He probably felt the same urgency Warren did. Derek was dying. The wolf inside him was weak, barely noticeable. Warren's wolf was agitated. Worried. Angry. Sad. Somehow he'd bonded with the young wolf inside the boy. Usually that would be a good sign, but if Derek took a turn for the worse, Warren wasn't quite sure what his wolf would do. This had never happened before outside safe wolf space
