Jess wakes up to the sound of rain on the window panes. James is still fast asleep. Still euphoric in her bliss as she remembers the events of the weekend. Her excitement spiking as she imagines visiting him in the city. She hasn't been back there since her breakup 8 years ago. What will it be like in his world? Suddenly realizing that she doesn't know much about the man next to her. She will have to remedy this. Quietly looking over his sleeping features he looks so peaceful, completely different from the insomniac he claims to be. But then again, Shirley told her about his problem. Maybe she can look into it for him, and try to help, but considering the deep sleeping state, she is witnessing it is hard to believe. Touching her hand to his naked chest she strokes his magnificent form and he stirs. He opens his eyes and at first, confusion swirls in them before he focuses on her face and a relaxed, loving look settles on his features. "Good morning handsome" she greets and kisses his peck muscle just above the n****e bringing a brilliant smile to his lips. "Good morning gorgeous" he kisses her hair. Leaning back on the pillow he looks up at the ceiling and she can feel the anxiety rolling off him in waves. "What's wrong?" she questions and he frowns. "Nothing ...nothing is wrong, everything is perfect" he smiles again self-consciously. "Then why the frown?" she pushes as he sighs "You know the insomnia thing, I have not slept through the night for over two years. I have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on doctors, specialists, herbalist cures, and whatever else anyone else suggested to try. Nothing worked. I have been frantically searching for anything and everything that has the potential to alleviate the symptoms. On my last trip here I had one night of restful sleep, the inky night that whole time I was here, and it was the night I spent with you." he says looking at her reverently, trying to convey his earnest sincerity. "And now, two nights in a row I slept through, and again it is when you are next to me." she frowns at his admission "and?" she questions not sure where it is going "I'm beginning to think you are the cure to more than just my loneliness" he chuckles as he pulls her over his chest and hugs her to him. Laughing incredulously she looks at him expecting to see him joking, but the seriousness in his eyes slams her deep in the gut. He is troubled by this sleeping problem. Lack of sleep is a serious health issue. "Sleeplessness is a serious condition James, it is not something to take lightly." she says with raised brows, and he sobers "I am well aware Jess, why else do you think I would go to such extremes to find a single night of sleep?" he looks at her questioning. "James, in all seriousness though, would you allow me to check you, and maybe if I observe you a little closer we can find a lasting cure?" she asks, as her nurturing nature come to the fore. "I'm quite happy with the current cure I found," he says as he pokes her ribs and she giggles," I'm serious she shrieks, trying to escape his hold" "as am I", he chuckles as he pulls her back onto his chest. " James!" she shrieks again, laughing he hugs her to him, and with his head in the crook of her neck " Yes Jess, you can do a checkup, I will have all the test results sent to you, and you are more than welcome to drive back with me if you want to observe me. Or your observations would have to wait for the weekend?" with a sly smile, he adds " whatever the doctor recommends!". " Yeah? whatever the Dr orders?" she inquires. " Absolutely, Mam, I would take any medical advice for my condition, and test it out to the extreme with all possibilities, and in, positions, additions, and options are taken into consideration". he says trying to look serious but failing miserably. Looking at him in disbelief they burst out laughing. She leans forward stilling his laughter with her lips on his. When they finally make their way out of bed, they dress and go in search of coffee and apple pie, a not to be missed stop in his opinion. As they drink their coffee and check their emails catching up on reality, she abruptly put her phone down to look at him "Do you have to go back today? I mean, if you can give me a day or two I can make arrangements to go with you, say Wednesday? and then I will only have to be back around the same time next week." He looks up from his phone, startled by her sudden decision to go with him. I wasn't expecting her to just up and go with me, I know she runs the doctor's practice in town as the lodge is her responsibility...but damn if I'm going to let this opportunity pass me by. He was barely joking when he suggested that she goes back with him, not thinking that she would consider it an actual option. He just wanted to prolong their time together as much as possible. Thinking that if she really is the cure to his ailment, her presence in the city would have a similar effect as out here in the wilderness." I can wait for you, no problem, if you are sure you want to do it right away, I mean, I have been living with it for so long, another week won't make a difference" he counters not wanting her to think that he is pressuring her into it. "Well, I would prefer not to wait," she says shrugging her shoulders "I want to help you, James, this isn't a ploy to get you to entertain me, I'm genuinely interested in helping you, and I selfishly want to spend more time with you" she says a small lost smile on her lips. Reaching over the table he takes her hands in his and holds them, "it never crossed my mind that you would want to be entertained, I am absolutely thrilled with the idea to take you home with me. If we are lucky I could even start the transfer of my goods to the cottage, and it might not happen instantly, but within the next few months I can have everything sorted and in place for my permanent move. Selfishly I want you with me, even at the cost of the people here. I... I want you with me Jess" he confesses not wanting to sound like a love sick puppy, but also not saying much if he does. They both smile optimistically. " Great!" she smiles. Their food arrives and they dig in, each lost in thought. After breakfast they walk around town, she shows him her practice and introduces him to her assistant, leaving James in her office she makes arrangements with the assistant so that she can travel. Sitting in her chair he can see so much of her in the furnishings and decor of the room, it is vintage chic, with a modern twist, Soft colors, and a touch of home in everything he sees. Not the clinical white walls he is used to in the city. He likes her space. what would she think of my office? of my home? He has never cared about what others think but for some reason her approval matters and it makes him anxious. A moment later she walks in and rummaging through her drawer collects files and folders before giving him a peck in the lips on her way out. He pulls out his phone and contacts Shirley to make arrangements for an additional desk to be placed in his office, she starts o question him but when he tells her to get it done, she quickly agrees and assures him it will be done. Hanging up he calls up Brighton to get a quick update on the current project status, and plan for his absence this week, knowing that everything is in good hands he leans his head back and closes his eyes. Startled awake when Jess enters the room he almost jumps from the chair, and she frowns at him, "are you ok" she asked concerned, "yeah just fell askeep, no biggie" he smiles back at her. She smirks shaking her head as she walks around the table to his side. placing her hands on either side if his face, she leans forward and kisses him. His hands circle her back pulling her closer, but she dodges and extracts herself from his hold. Pulling him up she grabs her bag and they head out. "My place is close, I need to pack a few things, and grab my notes. Unfortunately, I will have to work a bit on my visit, I hope you don't mind?" " I figured as much, I instructed Shirley to make an extra workspace available" he smiles and winks at her. Together they walk down the road toward her house. A typical village house, keeping perfectly with the town's rustic heritage. It's beautiful, and the interior is every bit as he pictured it to be. It's perfect. Minimalistic and functional, with a few odds and end heirlooms from her father. A whole room turned library, obviously to house the famous writings of her dad. Her space feels like home, warm and full of character. She clears her throat when she notices his perusal of her home unable to read the look on his face. does he think it below him? does he find me less acceptable, is he going to make excuses and leave? James looks at her, seeing the anxiety on her face, he pulls her in, pressing her back to the door and devours her mouth, leaving her breathless. " I think we should stay here tonight", he says with a wicket smile. Then seeing the uncertainty in her eyes he bends down and kisses her forehead. Silently reminding her of his devotion before he pulls away and makes himself comfortable on the couch. She stares at him, shaking her head and heads into the bedroom to pack her work and stuff for the trip to the city.
