I dropped Juliet off at her apartment and headed home. I ran from my van in a vain attempt to avoid the rain. Closing the door behind me, I shook my wet curls and set my bag down on the small side table. Ferdie bounded up to me and meowed his annoyance at my long absence. I squatted down and scratched him under his chin. “I know, big boy. You’re starving to death because no one ever feeds you.”
