Chapter 16 - The Attack pt. 2

2194 Words
Another man shifted into a wolf, and it was like everything felt into place. Werewolf. The men was f*****g werewolves, which meant that Deryn had to be one and… The entire royal family. I married a werewolf… No. No. No. This wasn’t happening. Werewolves weren’t real. They couldn’t be. My mind was playing tricks on me, like why the hell where all these werewolf thoughts coming from and why did it make so much sense, that they were werewolves? I was going insane or something. The two men who had been laying on the ground then shifted into wolves as well and rose, shaking their fur. And the other two men, that had been standing by the first wolf, shifted as well. I backed even further away, gaining the attention from the wolves and they took a couple for steps towards me. Deryn stepped in front of them, blocking their way to me. “Please don’t be sacred of me.” He said giving me a quick glare over his shoulder. He then shifted into a huge wolf, that I oddly enough wasn’t scared of, that where bigger than the other wolves, but he where still outnumbered. They then started growling aggressively at each other and the other wolves tried to get past Deryn, but he blocked every try they made. Realizing that Deryn was fast enough to block them, they jumped him at the exact same time. I watched in horror as one wolf bit down on his leg, blood dripping onto the ground. Another scratched his side, drawing even more blood from Deryn. What the hell was I supposed to do? I was no match for a wolf, sure I had wolf following me, but I didn’t know where it where right now and even if I did, how would I call it? Or make it help me? I where helpless… Unless. Pierces of glass from the shattered car window caught my eye and I slowly made my way towards it, not taking my eyes of the fighting wolves. More blood stained the ground and the wolves where howling and growling, but they didn’t sense me at all, I at least didn’t think that they did. I picked one of the bigger shards and took a couple of deep breaths, steeling myself. I had to help Deryn. I focused on the wolves trying to tell who were winning, sure it where the other guys, but which wolf where the strongest in that group? I had no idea, so I turned my attention to their injuries instead and pick the one with the least ones. I waited a couple of seconds more and then got to my feet, slowly, not wanting to draw attention to myself. The one I picked got closer to me, as it evaded Deryn’s attack and I decided to strike, before I changed my mind, or the opportunity was lost. I jumped onto the wolfs back, grabbing onto the fur with my free hand and stabbed the glass shard into its side with all my strength. I then started turning the glass, hoping to do maximum damage to the wolf. It started howling in what I was guessing were pain and tried to shake me off. I just dug my hand deeper into its fur and the glass shard I tried to dig deeper into its side. My hand, that were gripping the glass shard where bleeding and holding the shard got harder. The wolf beneath me then fell to the ground and I was slightly losing my grip, then another wolf grabbed onto my leg, yanking me off and then tossing me to the side. I screamed as the wolf’s teeth dug onto my skin and then a loud fear inducing howl filled the air. The wolf, that were normally following me, jump over the limousine and directly into the wolf whose bitemarks where on my leg. My wolf took up stance before me, growling at the other wolves. It then looked at me and then the castle far behind us. And I understood instantly what I was supposed to do. I got to my feet and the second my weight landed on the hurt leg, pain flooded my system and more blood gushed out of the bitemark. I didn’t have time for this. I needed to get away and possible get help. I grabbed hold of my dress and then tore a huge piece of the already ruined skirt of off it. I then used the torn off skirt as a makeshift bandage around the leg. Before I where able to take a step towards the castle one of the wolves stepped in front of me and where then tackled to the ground by Deryn. My wolf growled at him, but then stopped and it was almost like my wolf accepted Deryn right then and there. The two wolves kept blocking other wolves’ way, so they weren’t able to get to me, as I slowly made my way towards the castle. A wolf whimpered and I looked back seeing my wolf get scratched and it felt like I where the one getting hurt. Out of the corner of my eye I saw something jumping of the roof of the limousine and I felt to the ground. Landing directly on the hurt leg and I bit down hard, from keeping myself from screaming. The wolf where then tackled to the ground, and I used the car to get back on my feet. Taking a couple of deep breaths and steeling myself yet again I started running. The pain hit me hard and were trying to send me to the ground, but I had to do this. I had to tough it out and just keep running. I even tuned out the fight behind me and only stopped up, for a short second, when a wolf jumped in front of me. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----Rylee POV---- The shouting where first weak but slowly it got louder and louder. Irritated by the sound, because I was trying to sleep, I turned I the bed. It did get a bit late last night, but I had a blast, and I might be I little hangover. I got up from the bed, annoyed that I was woken, and everything started to turn, so I used the wall to steady myself. I was definitely hangover. After a couple more seconds I walked to the window, opened the curtains and squinted as the sunlight hit me. It was way too bright for my liking. Taking a couple more seconds, so that my eyes could adjust to the light, I then opened the window and the shouting where back. Someone were calling for help, but I wasn’t able to see the who it was. I looked back at my bed. I just wanted to go back to sleep. Someone else could deal with this and I was about to close the window when I saw a figure kind of running over the hill towards the castle. From this distance my human eyes, weren’t able to see who it was, so I took a couple of deep breaths, changeling my Wolf and slowly the figure came into focus. It where Leigh, running as fast as she could. But that wasn’t what really got my attention. No Leigh had a piece of clothing wrapped around her leg. I Mind-linked Kayden right away, but I got no answer. In fact, I wasn’t able to get through to him, almost like he was blocking me. I just shook my head. He and Leigh probably got in a fight on their way to the city. I wouldn’t be surprised if that where the case. My brother really knew how to piss someone off and especially Leigh. I was not going to get in the middle of this. This was Kayden’s headache and not mine. And he where probably blocking me, because he needed time to cool off or something like that. My brother where a hothead sometimes. Then a group of wolves showed up behind her, as I was about to close the curtains and my wolf started stirring. This was so not normal and the wolves behind her were four unidentified, the wolf that followed Leigh in the mix and then Deryn. Kayden were nowhere to be found and panic started to creep in, so I Mind-linked him again, but nothing. I then debated with myself about what to do, only to have my decision made for me when Leigh were tackled to the ground. I jumped out the window not caring about the fact that I where only wearing boxers. The pain shoot through my body as I landed on the ground below me, but that what’s happens when you jump out the window from the 3rd floor. I felt my werewolf healing kicking in right away and healed everything back up. I then started running towards the outer wall and scaled it gracefully, if I had to say so myself. I tried Mind-linking Kayden again, but I only got a bit of static. What the heck Kayden!? I wasn’t joking around. I balanced on the top of the wall, as I saw Leigh getting back up and started running towards the castle again. She was still pretty far away, but I could get to her in no time. I jumped down and started running towards her, but not at full speed. I didn’t know if she saw them shift into wolves or not and I didn’t want to spook her, which were also the reason I didn’t shift myself. Her terrain where a bit hilly and mine flat as hell, so I did lose sight of her a couple of times, but this time, when I saw her again, she saw me and changed direction, so that she was now running towards me. She looked surprised, but happy to see me and I Mind-linked Kayden again, while slowing down a bit. She just had to pass me, and she would be safe, because it would be three against four and even in my human form, I was able to take down a wolf without a problem. One of the other wolves got hold of her leg and she fell, but Deryn was there within seconds, biting down on the wolf. Leigh made a grimace but got out of the hold and got to her legs, only to fall right back down. That’s when I saw it. The clothing around her leg was stained by blood, her blood and it was her blood, as well as the others I was able to faintly smell in the air. I started running, not realizing I had stopped, picking my speed up quickly, and I was trying to get hold of Kayden yet again. Another wolf attacked Leigh, but her wolf managed to stop it before Leigh was hit. And it got the third wolf to, but the two wolves were fighting back hard and were slowly, but surely making Leigh’s wolf back away from her. Deryn was tired and were slowly losing the fight to the wolf he was fighting. One of the enemy wolves then made its way around the two group of fighting wolves, and I didn’t give a damn about hiding my wolf and its powers. I gave it my all and speed up. Leigh tried crawling away, but the wolf kicked her down and then it put a paw on her, holding her down. And I speed up. My Wolf had already accepted her as family, and no one touched my family. She didn’t give up though despite her odds against a wolf. No, she balled her left hand into a fist and hit the wolf on the site of its head. It shook its head and then growled, saliva dripping down onto her. “What’s do goddamn important!?” Kayden’s voice echoed in my head, and I was about to answer him when the wolf grabbed hold of Leigh’s arm with its teeth and then pulled. Leigh screamed out in pain, as the wolfs teeth tore down her arm, leaving long blood marks from her shoulder and down to her wrist. “LEIGH!” I screamed her name and ran straight into the wolf. Without thinking I tore through the wolfs chest, grabbing hold of its heart and ripping it out. Then to just make a point I ripped the head of the already dead wolf. I then crouch down by Leigh, whose eyes were closed. With bloody and shaking hands, I touched her neck, looking for a pulse on her lifeless body and after a couple of agonizing seconds I finally found a pulse. It was weak but thankfully there. “Please say she’s alive.” Deryn stood to my right, using Leigh’s wolf as support. I had no words for him and just nodded, as I pulled away, to stand. “God no.” Deryn’s voice trembled when he saw her left arm and the wolf whimpered. As I carefully picked Leigh up, one though kept running through my head. Kayden you are so dead.
