Chapter Seven The Bond Ignites Evelyn The mansion’s library smelled of old leather and polished wood. Books lined the walls from floor to ceiling, but Evelyn barely noticed. Her hands lingered over the spines, tracing titles she didn’t recognize, because her mind was elsewhere—on him. Colt. She could still feel his heat from earlier, the brush of his hand against hers, and the golden intensity in his eyes that made her chest ache. Something about him wasn’t human. Not really. And yet… she wanted him. She stepped closer to a tall window, looking out toward the misty forest. A flicker of movement caught her eye. Shadows, always shadows, always something lurking. “Colt?” she called softly. The air shifted behind her. She didn’t have to look. She felt him before he even spoke. “I’m here,” he said, low, almost a growl in his voice. She turned. His golden eyes were fixed on her, pupils constricted with something she couldn’t name—possessiveness, desire, warning. All at once. Her stomach twisted. “Why do I feel… like there’s something inside you?” she whispered. His jaw tightened. A flicker of gold danced in his eyes. “Because there is,” he admitted. Quiet. Controlled. Obsessive. Colt The wolf stirred violently the moment she asked. Yes. She feels it. The bond. The pull. The truth of her blood—moon-touched, rare, irresistible to the beast in him. He couldn’t touch her yet—not fully. Not until she understood the danger she walked into. But he could let her feel part of it. He stepped closer, slow, deliberate. Close enough that she could see the gold flicker in his eyes. Close enough that she could feel his warmth radiating across the space between them. Her hand itched to brush against him. The wolf inside him ached to claim her with more than a brush of skin. Instead, he whispered: “You need to understand—what you feel, what’s happening… it’s real. And it’s dangerous.” Her lips parted slightly, curiosity mixing with fear and desire. “I feel it,” she admitted softly. “I… feel you.” Evelyn His eyes darkened, gold flickering like fire. Heat pulsed through the air between them. She wanted to reach out, to touch him, to feel what it was like to be closer. Her instincts screamed caution. Her heart screamed desire. “Don’t,” he whispered, voice rougher now. “Not yet. Not until you understand what that bond means.” And yet, the way he moved closer, subtle but deliberate, made her ache in ways she didn’t know she could. The tension was unbearable. Her fingertips grazed his chest again, hesitant. Just a touch. The wolf inside him nearly tore free. But he held it. For her. Colt She had no idea what she’d just done to him. One small touch, fleeting, innocent—but it sent his entire body into a low, controlled frenzy. His wolf clawed at his restraint, gold eyes bright, teeth flashing slightly. He couldn’t stop the surge, but he could stop himself from harming her. “I… can’t let you wander alone,” he murmured. “Not while you feel what you feel. Not while I feel what I feel.” The bond between them tightened like a leash around his chest. She was his in ways he could barely name—and yet, he couldn’t claim her fully. Not yet. But he wanted her. Every heartbeat, every breath, every pulsing nerve screamed the truth: mine. And she felt it too. Her blood raced. Her knees trembled. She wanted to be near him, close enough to feel the warmth of his body, the strength, the danger. The pull was magnetic. Impossible. Unstoppable. And neither of them could deny it. Evelyn She stepped closer, drawn by the invisible tether connecting them. Her hand brushed his arm. Just once. The effect was immediate. His body tensed. Gold flickered in his eyes. Heat washed over her in a wave. “Evelyn…” he murmured. “I—” she faltered, breath trembling. The world narrowed. Everything outside—the mansion, the forest, the shadows—faded. There was only him. Only them. Only the pull of a bond that neither could escape. And the wolf stirred beneath his skin, promising danger, desire, and obsession in equal measure.
