The Dragon in Chiang Mai Chiang Mai was our third major stopover in Thailand. The train trip had been brutal. Anne took the top bunk in a sleeper carriage and somehow I ended up with all our bags in the lower bunk. A thin blue curtain separated me from everyone walking by. All night. Worse yet, we were next to the internal carriage door, which did nothing but open and shut all night. Didn’t people ever sleep on sleeper trains? Still, we’d arrived, and it seemed a little cooler at this end of Thailand. Not only was there a cooler climate, but the old town was much more historic than either Ko Pha Ngan or Bangkok. Everywhere you looked, there were old walls, temples, and monks. Well, the monks were mainly behind the old walls and inside the temples, but they were there. I would have though
