(Sabrina's P.O.V.)
The next morning, Sabrina woke to crashing sounds in her living room. She got up and grabbed the aluminum baseball bat she kept under her bed for protection. She slowly made her way towards her door and opened it to find her mother throwing dishes in the kitchen. As she rushed in, she dropped the bat and tried to stop her mother by grabbing her wrist.
"What are you doing?! Why are you breaking our dishes?", Sabrina demanded to know.
"I bought them and if I want to break them, it's my choice.", Joan said glaring at Sabrina. Sabrina took the plate from Joan's hand and moved her from the kitchen. Joan had on her work scrubs.
"Are you going to work?", Sabrina asked.
"Why are you trying to get rid of me? I should just leave and never come back. It's not like you'd care anyway. Clean up that mess!", Joan yelled as she walked to the front door grabbing her purse. She walked out the door slamming it behind her. Sabrina picked up her bat and returned it to her room. She put on a pair of slippers she had and hunted for the broom. Why did Joan always destroy things after they fought? The worse part was she always had Sabrina clean up whatever mess she made. This was getting ridiculous. At first, Joan made it seem like breaking things was an accident but after a while she stopped with the act. She would just break things and throw anything that would give a loud crash and breaking now. Joan always did this after they fought and it was getting worse. Sweeping up the mess, Sabrina was considering just packing up her stuff and getting a place of her own. She had savings to do so now. She didn't have to depend on her mother. Plus, she was already well past an adult. Sighing, she swept up the mess and got ready for work.
All ready for work, Sabrina stepped out her door to find Gabriel's truck waiting at the curb. She walked over to his truck and he opened the door for her.
"Get in and I'll give you a ride to work.", Gabriel said as the sudden smell of cedar hit her nose. Sabrina immediately felt a calm come over her.
"How long have you been sitting here?", Sabrina wondered if he had been there earlier for the dishes and fighting.
"I only just got here a little bit before you came outside.", Gabriel reassured her. Relief flooded through her at his words.
"Well I don't have to be to work for 20 minutes. Why don't we go get coffee?", Sabrina suggested. They head for the coffee shop down the street from her work. After ordering their coffee, they walked down to the bookstore. Sabrina opened the door and they both went inside. She locked the door behind them once inside and began setting up for the day.
"I told my parents about you. They want meet you.", Gabriel told Sabrina.
"You told them about me and they want to meet me? Why would they want to meet me?", Sabrina asked a bit panicked. Gabriel smiled and wrapped his arms around her and she felt the tingles from his touch. She wondered why it was just his touch.
"They're just excited and want to meet you. They suggested we have dinner together the next night you're free.", Gabriel's voice vibrated through her excited body. She looked up into his green eyes that reminded her of the wolf from last night.
"So what do you think? Dinner tonight with my parents?", Gabriel suggested.
"I get off work at 5pm. I'd like to go home and change. I want to look nice if I'm going to met your parents.", Sabrina announced worrying about what she would wear. She had never been properly introduced to parents of her boyfriend before. Darren had introduced her to his mother but they hadn't actually spent anytime getting to know each other. Gabriel squeezed her in a hug before stepping back a grin on his face.
"They're going to love you. I'll be at your house by 6pm to come get you.", he said looking very excited about all of this. She unlocked the door and let him out of the store. Gabriel gave her a quick kiss before jogging to his truck. Sabrina touched her lips that still tingled from their kiss. She opened the store with a smile on her face looking forward to tonight. She just hoped his parents would like her.
Sabrina worked throughout the day by herself until 3pm when Peggy came to work. Peggy didn't waste any time.
"So how was your date last night? Tell me everything, dirty details included.", Peggy said pulling Sabrina to her side.
"Well he took me to that Italian restaurant just outside of town.", Sabrina sighed giving in to Peggy.
"Bartollini's is great and snazzy. He get points for the choice of restaurant.", Peggy said staring at her for more information.
"We had a great time. I found out we have a lot in common. We made it through the whole night laughing and talking.", Sabrina said hesitantly not wanting to go over what happened after.
"Why do I have a feeling there is a big ass but at the end of that statement. What happened?", Peggy asked worried about her friend. Sabrina told her about Rachel and what had happened. The whole time Peggy smiled her bitchy smile that said she wasn't happy with Rachel. Then, Sabrina told her about what happened when Gabriel drove her home.
"You got caught making out by your mom?", Peggy laughed as she heard all about her mom interrupting the particularly hot moment in Gabriel's truck.
"Yeah well I'm glad you think it's funny. I'm supposed to be having dinner with his parents tonight. I'm wondering what to wear.", Sabrina told her still a little nervous about meeting Gabriel's parents.
"Whatever you wear, just keep it simple but nice. You'll make a good impression that way.", Peggy said. Sabrina didn't own a lot of dressy clothes but she did have a dress she thought would be perfect.
"I do have one dress that's nice.", Sabrina said smiling. Sabrina worked with Peggy til the end of her day. Wishing her good luck on meeting Gabriel's parents, Peggy waved her goodbye. Sabrina hurried home to get ready for her date.
When she got home, Sabrina noticed her mother wasn't home yet. Perfect. She hopped in the shower quickly and got out to get ready. She found the one dress she owned in the back of her closet. It was a white sun dress that had blue daisies all over with a denim vest. She put the dress on. It came down to her knees and covered her everywhere that mattered. She did her makeup light and natural. Sabrina let her hair down and put on her white sandals. She texted Gabriel letting him know she would be ready at 6pm. She check herself in the mirror satisfied with what she saw, she went to get her bag and keys. She left a note for her mom. Not that she expected her to be happy about it but she at least wanted Joan to know where she went. A knock on the door sounded and when she opened it there stood Gabriel. He took her breath away every time she saw him.
"You look beautiful. Are you ready to go?", Gabriel asked staring at her from head to toe. Sabrina body began to heat under his gaze. Walking out the door locking it behind her, they walked to Gabriel's truck. He was opening the door for her when Joan drove up into their driveway. Sabrina hurries to get into the truck when she heard Joan's voice.
"Where are you going?!", Joan yelled as she got out of her faded gold Buick.
"Sabrina is going to be having dinner with my parents and I tonight.", Gabriel answered for her. Sabrina prayed her mother would take his answer and be satisfied.
"Who are you? I was speaking to my daughter.", Joan spoke to Gabriel as if he was in the way. Gabriel closed the door to his truck securing Sabrina inside. He then said something to Joan that made her face contort with anger but she walked into the house without another word. Gabriel walked around the truck and got in the driver's seat.
"What did you say to her?", Sabrina asked curious about how he had managed to get Joan to walk away without a fight.
"I just told her who you were having dinner with. As in who my parents are, the Lewis'. Ready?", he asked with a grin on his face. Sabrina nodded yes. He started the truck and drove her towards his house.
