Chapter 003

1010 Words
~Amara’s POV~ As I stood there, trembling and filled with a mix of fear and anger, the stranger who had saved me from my stepmother emanated an aura of strength that was hard to ignore. His presence made me feel both vulnerable and safe at the same time. I turned to him, my voice shaking slightly as I said, "Thank you, Mr. Black.” My heart raced as I tried to gather my thoughts, still reeling from the encounter with Lisa and the rogue. Before I could catch my breath, Lisa's voice sliced through the air, demanding I return with her. There was venom in her words, a reminder of the betrayal I had faced at her hands. I felt a surge of defiance rise within me. "You’re not my mother," I shot back, my voice steady despite the fear swirling inside me. "You sacrificed me to protect your daughter, and now you’re trying to sell me too." I could see the shock on her face, but I didn't care. I had endured too much already. I was tired of being treated like a pawn in someone else's game. I didn’t know much about the man who stood beside me, but I could sense a deep well of power in him. His presence made me feel safe, something I hadn’t felt in a long time. Lisa turned her attention to him, her eyes pleading. "She’s gone mad since waking from her coma. She’s lost one baby and been abandoned by her mate, Ronan." Her words cut deep, reminding me of the painful truth that haunted me daily. I felt my heart clench at the mention of Ronan. I still remember how he looked at me, with that cold indifference, as if I were nothing more than a means to an end. But I shook the thoughts away. I couldn’t let Lisa use my pain against me. At that moment, Jaxon stepped closer to me, his voice low and commanding. “She’s with me now. I’ll handle this.” His grip on my hand was firm yet gentle, and I felt a spark of hope flicker within me as he led me away from Lisa, who stood there stunned in the hotel lobby. As we walked, I tried to process everything that was happening. My heart raced as we made our way down the corridor. Jaxon was a mystery to me, and yet he felt like a beacon of safety. I glanced up at him, searching his face for answers. “What will happen now?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. He looked at me, his expression serious. “We need to get you out of here. You’re not safe with your stepmother or that rogue.” His words sent a shiver down my spine. I could hardly believe what Lisa had almost done. She had put me in danger, and the thought of being sold to a rogue made me sick. Jaxon led me to an office that smelled of rich wood and leather. The walls were adorned with photographs of wolves, most of them looking strong and proud. The room felt warm and welcoming, a stark contrast to the coldness of the hotel lobby. As he closed the door behind us, I took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm inside me. “Sit,” he instructed, gesturing to a large chair in front of a desk. I obeyed, feeling both anxious and relieved to be away from the chaos outside. Jaxon took a seat across from me. He sat steadily as he studied me. I shifted uncomfortably under his scrutiny. “Hey” he began, his voice gentle but firm. “I know you’ve been through a lot. Losing your baby, waking up to find Ronan married to Sienna … it’s a lot to handle.” I felt tears prick at my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I nodded, trying to maintain my composure. “I don’t understand why you helped me,” I admitted, my voice trembling slightly. “You don’t even know me.” Jaxon leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk. “You don’t have to understand. What matters is that you’re safe now. I can’t stand by and let anyone hurt you, especially not someone from your own family.” His words struck deep within me. For so long, I had felt alone and abandoned. I had lost everything, and now I had to navigate a world filled with betrayal and danger. But here was this man, a stranger, willing to protect me. It was both comforting and terrifying. “Thank you,” I said, my voice barely a whisper. “But what will I do now? I have to find my other baby. I can’t leave them behind.” Jaxon’s expression softened as he nodded. “We’ll find your baby, I promise. But first, you need to recover. You’ve been through so much, and your health is important.” The determination in his voice ignited something within me. I wasn’t just a victim anymore. I was a mother, and I would do whatever it took to get my baby back. I would not let Lisa or Ronan dictate my life any longer. “What if they don’t want me to have my baby?” I asked, fear creeping back into my voice. “What if they try to stop me?” Jaxon’s expression hardened slightly, a flicker of anger flashing in his eyes. “They won’t. I will ensure that they cannot touch you or your child again.” His words sent a thrill through me. I felt a sense of empowerment, a ray of hope I hadn’t felt in weeks. Maybe I could trust him, maybe he could help me fight against the odds that seemed insurmountable. “What do we do next?” I asked, my heart pounding with renewed determination. “It comes with a condition though” he replied, taking me aback by his words. What could it be?
