Chapter 004

1715 Words
~Jaxon POV~ As I stood in my office, the weight of the world seemed to rest on my shoulders. Amara Stone was in front of me, a woman I had only heard whispers about. She had once been my stepson's mate, and now she was a broken soul, lost and searching for her place in a world that had turned its back on her. My heart twisted in my chest as I thought about how Ronan had mistreated her, how he had used her as a pawn in his twisted game to save Sienna. It made my blood boil. I remembered the stories of Amara, how she had fought to rise within our world, how she had once believed in love and the idea of a true mate. Now, that love had been cruelly stripped away from her, leaving nothing but pain in its wake. She stood there, looking so fragile yet holding a quiet strength that pulled at me. “Thank you, Mr. Black,” she had said when I saved her from her stepmother. Her voice had a tremor of gratitude, but I could see the fear in her eyes. I could sense the turmoil within her. I knew she had lost one of her children, a tragedy no mother should ever have to endure, and now she was being threatened by her own family. “Are you alright?” I asked, my voice softer than I intended. I wasn’t used to being gentle, especially not in this role as Alpha, but something about her made me want to protect her fiercely. I wasn’t just defending her, I was defending everything she represented, a chance for redemption, a chance to rise from the ashes of betrayal. Amara looked up at me, her green eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “I don’t know,” she whispered, her voice barely above a whisper. “I thought I would be okay, but I don’t think I am.” I had to fight the urge to pull her into my arms and shield her from the world. She had been hurt so deeply, and I wanted to help her, to show her that there was still hope. “You will be,” I assured her, even if I wasn’t sure myself. “We can figure this out together.” As I spoke, I felt a deep connection to her, something I couldn’t quite explain. She was not just a victim in my eyes, but she was a survivor. I knew the stories of how Lucas had betrayed her and how he had married her sister, Sienna. I knew that it had been an act of desperation for power, a move made by a man who had lost his way. I had promised Ronan's mother that I would protect him, but he had crossed a line when he let one of his children die. Now, the monster in him was coming to light, and I could no longer stand idly by. “Do you want me to call the authorities?” I asked. “Maybe they can help you find your baby.” Amara shook her head, her expression shifting from fear to determination. “No. If I want to find my baby, I have to do this myself. I can’t rely on anyone else.” There was a fire in her words, a strength that surprised me. She was fiercely protective of her child, and I admired that. As she prepared to leave, I stopped her. “I’ll help you get custody of your child,” I said, my heart pounding at the weight of my offer. I had to make sure she knew that she wasn’t alone anymore. Her eyes widened in shock. “Thinking about it, is it true? My baby is alive?” Her voice trembled with hope, and I could see the flicker of light return to her eyes, even if just for a moment. “Yes,” I replied, trying to keep my tone steady. “But it won’t be easy. You lost one child, and the other is still with them. I will help you, but only under one condition.” She hesitated, her wolf cautious and protective, just as I had expected. “What condition?” she asked, her brow furrowing. “You must marry me,” I said bluntly, watching her reaction carefully. Her shocked expression was everything I had anticipated. “What?” she gasped, her voice rising in disbelief. “Why would I marry you?” “Because it’s the only way to ensure Ronan and Sienna will never have control over you or your child again. It’s the only way to give you the protection of my pack.” I stepped closer, lowering my voice to a more intimate level. “This is not just about us. It’s about your future and the future of your child.” Amara’s breath caught in her throat. I could see the gears turning in her mind as she processed my words. “You can’t be serious,” she finally said, shaking her head. “You barely know me.” “I know enough,” I replied, trying to convey the urgency of the situation. “I’ve seen how Ronan treated you. I know he plans to use you for his own selfish needs. If we marry, I can protect you. You’ll be under my protection, and you’ll have the strength of my pack behind you.” She took a step back, her expression conflicted. “And what’s in it for you?” she asked, crossing her arms defensively. “Why would you want to marry me? You have everything…a powerful pack, respect, and status. Why would you want to tie yourself to someone like me?” “Because I care about what happens to you,” I said, surprising even myself with my sincerity. “I can’t stand by and watch you suffer any longer. You deserve a chance to heal, to be free from the chains that bind you.” Amara stared at me, her eyes searching mine for the truth. I held my breath, hoping she could see the honesty in my gaze. “I want to help you,” I added, my voice softer now. “You deserve better than what Ronan and Sienna have given you.” For a moment, we stood in silence, the weight of the world resting on our shoulders. Amara’s heart raced as she processed my proposal, the air thick with tension. I could see her wolf battling against her fears and doubts. “I’ll think about it,” she finally said, her voice a mere whisper. It wasn’t a yes, but it wasn’t a no either. I could sense her reluctance, but I also felt a glimmer of hope. “Take your time,” I replied, trying to sound reassuring. “But know this, that if you choose to accept my offer, you will have the support you need to fight for your child. You won’t be alone in this.” She nodded slowly, and I could see the wheels turning in her mind. I wanted to give her space to think, but I also felt an overwhelming urge to protect her. “Amara,” I said, hesitating before adding, “you don’t have to go through this alone anymore. I’m here, and I’ll fight for you.” She looked at me, her expression softening just a little. “Thank you, Jaxon. I appreciate that,” she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. I felt a rush of warmth at her words as if a wall had come down between us. Maybe, just maybe, we could find a way through this darkness together. I wanted to show her that there was still light in the world, that even after everything she had endured, she could still find happiness and love again. As we stood there, I realized that my feelings for Amara were deepening. I felt a connection to her that I hadn’t expected, and it frightened me. I knew I had to be careful not to let my emotions cloud my judgment. This was about her and her child, not about me. But the more I learned about Amara, the more I wanted to protect her, to show her what it meant to be loved without conditions. I wanted to give her a chance at a new life, away from the shadows of her past. “Let me walk you, ” I said finally, needing to see her safely away from this hotel and away from her stepmother. She nodded, and as we stepped out into the cool evening air, I felt a sense of urgency wash over me. I couldn’t let her go back to that life, back to the manipulation and betrayal. She deserved better. As we walked in silence, I glanced at her, taking in the way the moonlight highlighted her features. She was beautiful, even with the pain etched in her expression. I wanted to take that pain away, to show her that she could trust me. “Jaxon,” she said suddenly, breaking the silence. “Why do you care so much?” “I may not know you well, but I know what you’ve been through. I see the strength in you, and I can’t turn my back on someone who needs help.” I paused, trying to gather my thoughts. “I don’t want to see you suffer anymore.” She smiled softly at my words, and for the first time since I had met her, I saw a flicker of hope in her eyes. “Thank you for saying that. It means more than you know.” “Please think about my offer,” I said in my voice. “You deserve to be free, to live your life on your terms.” “I will,” she promised, and as she looked at me, I felt a spark between us. There was something special about this moment, a sense of possibility that lingered in the air. As she walked away, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I had made the right choice by stepping in to help her. Whatever it takes, I don't care…so far she lets me in!
