Cassie’s POV
I was preparing to go to the restaurant when Jane showed up at my house. She looked more terrified than the last time she had come. The way she was reacting made me put aside everything I was doing to give her my attention. She tried to speak, but her voice didn’t come out. I held her shoulders as tears streamed from her eyes.
“What has happened, Jane?” I asked her.
I didn’t know what to do because she remained mute. She was still in shock. I wondered how she had driven from Bulawayo in that state. She tried to form words with her lips, but I couldn’t read her dry, trembling lips. I thought maybe Spencer had beaten her again.
