Chapter 17: Lauren“Hi, Mom! It’s me! How’s it going?”
Lauren sat down in her favorite chair, smiling. “Kayla! What a nice surprise! I was just thinking about you.”
“I was thinking of you, too, Mom. Some friends were talking about Thanksgiving plans. I know it’s still a ways off, but I really miss being home, you know. You’re going to make all the traditional stuff, right? I know Dad is really looking forward to eating your cooking again. He was looking pretty thin when I saw him last week.”
“Dad was there last week?” That explained the charges on their credit card.
“He surprised me with a visit. I think he’s really lonely. I’m kinda worried about him. And I think he really misses being home with you. It can’t be easy being on the road all the time. He really loves you, you know.”
