Episode 5 - 6

5 I looked back. Ian was bracing himself above me with both hands. His beautiful face was inches away. His lips were bitten red, his eyes damp and unfocused. The shirt on his back—loosened when I applied the medicine—hung open, revealing glimpses of his strong shoulders and taut back. 【At this point, the female supporting character will definitely call him disgusting and abandon him while he’s sick…】 I stayed silent. Then I reached into my pocket— And felt a piece of candy. I tore open the wrapper with my teeth. A sweet orange scent spread through my mouth. I pressed my fingertip against Ian’s lips, rubbing firmly to stop him from biting himself. “Relax.” Ian’s entire body shuddered. A low, suppressed gasp slipped from his throat. “Do you know what you’re doing?” His voice was hoarse, stretched to its limit. I looked at him and smiled—innocent and sweet. Then I lifted my head and kissed him. I fed the candy in my mouth to him. “For your… treatment.” With a sharp boom— It was as if Ian had been set on fire. One of his hands clamped tightly onto my shoulder, forcing my head back as he kissed me wildly. He pulled me hard into his arms. Sweetness spread everywhere. 【Oh my god… the female supporting character biting candy and smiling—way too seductive. I’d go weak in the knees just meeting her gaze.】 【Does anyone understand?! Their size difference is killing me. She’s so small, and he can wrap her entire waist with just one arm.】 Suddenly, a notification sound rang out. A voice message—from Nathan Gu. “Mian, didn’t you say Ian Song’s condition was disgusting? That you normally didn’t even want to touch him? Then why did you take him to the infirmary today?” “Suri used my mother’s illness to threaten me again. Can you give me your guaranteed admission slot? I want to leave this place…” The air went dead silent. Ian slowly pushed me away. He forced a pale smile, clenching his fist. “I’m sorry… I disgusted you.” Before I could say anything, Ian turned and walked away. I hurried after him— Only to see him yank open a drawer, searching frantically for his medication. He used too much force. The drawer snapped off completely. His arm was instantly sliced open, blood spilling out— yet his expression didn’t change at all. Pills scattered across the floor, indistinguishable from one another. Ian gasped in panic. He grabbed a pair of scissors nearby and viciously slashed his own arm. Blood surged out. Only then did the corner of his lips curve upward— as if this pain finally made him feel a little more awake. I stood there, stunned. The comments went insane. 【Female supporting character… you could hurt him, but did it really have to be this bad?】 【Put yourself in his shoes—I really want to cry. Since childhood, he hasn’t dared touch anyone because of this illness. Even his mother treated him like a monster.】 【The only girl he likes tells him he’s disgusting—right after comforting him.】 【If he doesn’t turn dark after this, who would?】 I… I was wronged. Those words were from before— from when I was still prejudiced against Ian Song. I don’t think that way anymore. Not now. 6 When I woke up the next morning, Ian Song was gone. He didn’t come to school either. Distracted and restless, I barely made it through to the third class before hearing terrible news. The only guaranteed university admission slot in the entire school had been given to Nathan Gu. I ran frantically to the homeroom teacher’s office, desperate for an explanation. Instead, I saw Suri already inside. Standing beside her was the vice principal, bowing and scraping. Nathan’s figure was still upright and elegant, but the way he looked at Suri had grown deep and complicated. When I appeared, Suri didn’t even glance at me. She merely said calmly to the vice principal, “Good grades aren’t that big of an advantage anyway. Money is. My dad donates so much to the school every year—what’s wrong with giving just one slot?” Faced with my questioning, the vice principal grew visibly annoyed. He even accused me of being petty. He said that aside from academic performance, I couldn’t compare to Nathan in any other way. He said Nathan needed that slot more than I did. My eyes burned. Before I could stop it, a red ring formed around them as I bit down hard on my lip. Only when I reached the empty hallway did I dare cry out loud. For once, the barrage of comments fell silent. A few seconds later, curses exploded. 【I want to mail a razor blade to this damn author. The female supporting character studies day and night—waking before dawn, staying up late grinding through problem sets, ranking first in the entire grade every time.】 【She suffers like this, and they just hand it over to someone else? Is the college entrance exam a joke now?】 【Does her life not count? Praising privilege while ignoring people at the bottom who struggle—what kind of values are these? What kind of male and female leads are these?】 【The poor female supporting character is too wronged. She’s only crying, and yet it feels like the whole world is at fault…】 Who would’ve thought— The very next morning, the girl sitting in front of me called out excitedly, “Mian! The guaranteed admission slot was returned to you!” I jolted upright in bed. “…What?” As soon as I entered the classroom, everyone was buzzing. The girl in front whispered, “The grade head stayed late last night. Someone smashed up the office and stole his phone. The recording between him and Suri’s father got leaked…” “People from the Education Bureau came today. They dealt with the grade head, and once they confirmed the slot had been manipulated, they gave it back to you.” I patted my chest. My heart, which had been hanging in midair, finally dropped back into place. I joked with my classmate, “Guess I’m really lucky. That thief picked a great time.” The comments exploded. 【She probably doesn’t know—the ‘thief’ is 190 cm tall, eight-pack abs, quiet, handsome… and his name is Ian Song.】 “…Huh?” I froze. 【The male supporting character stood in the hallway last night watching the female supporting character cry for a long time. Later that night, he beat up the grade head and wrecked the office… and now he’s at his old house, being punished by his father.】 【Male supporting character: Even if I care about her, from now on, I won’t smile at her anymore.】 That night, I sat in the living room, waiting for Ian Song. It was almost midnight, and he still hadn’t returned. My fingers hovered over my phone, typing and deleting. Finally, I sent a message. “Why aren’t you home yet?” On the other end, it kept showing typing. After a while, he replied: “I’m very busy. I won’t be coming back for a while.” Me: “Then… are you free right now?” Ian Song: “???” I pursed my lips and typed: “I have something I want to tell you…” Ian Song: “My condition won’t trouble you anymore from now on. If you want to break up, I agree. I don’t need you that much anyway.” Me: “But I accidentally broke a cup… Wuwuwu.” Ian Song— “Did you burn yourself?” “Are you hurt?” “Don’t be scared.” “Stand still and don’t move around.” “Wait for me.” “I’m coming home now.” Pink bubbles flooded the comments. 【I’m begging you, male supporting character—can you please not love this hard?】 【‘Not convenient.’ ‘Breaking up is fine.’ ‘I don’t need you that much.’ Then immediately: ‘Don’t be scared.’ ‘Wait for me.’ ‘I’m coming.’ So is ‘breaking up’ just a comma here? Hahaha.】
