The Bet

Logan Just like the drive to the hospital, the drive home is mostly quiet. Elizabeth sits up straight in the passenger seat as I pull into the driveway and turn off the engine. I hop out of the van, walking around to help her out, but she’s already sliding out. “Practicing patience isn't your thing, huh?” I ask as she shuts the door. “You couldn't wait a second for me to come and help.” “I'm fine,” she says. “It's not like I have broken bones or something.” “You're so stubborn,” I say, scooping her into my arms for the third time tonight. “Good thing is I have just what it takes to deal with that stubbornness.” She blows out a breath in surrender. “Good for you.” I try the door, but it doesn't budge. “Keys,” I say. “Mia's inside,” she says, stretching her arm to ring the doorbell.
