The night the blood moon came out, Alina felt something strange inside her. It was like a heartbeat that did not belong to her. She had always believed she was just a normal human girl, but that night proved otherwise.
The forest behind Moon-crest Village felt alive, as if it was calling to her. Alina did not know why she was so drawn to it, but she followed the pull until she stepped under the full moon.
That was when she saw him.
Lucas .
The Alpha of the Crescent Pack. Strong, quiet, and the man who always made her feel something she could not explain. He walked out of the shadows with golden eyes fixed on her.
“Alina, “he said softly. “You shouldn’t be out here tonight.”
“Why? What’s happening to me?” she asked, her voice shaking.
Lucas looked at her with worry and something deeper, something he had been hiding.
“The moon is waking up your real blood,” he said. “You’re not just a girl from the village. You are the last daughter of the White Moon line. You are my destined Luna.”
Alina stepped back. “That can’t be true.”
But the moment the moonlight touched her fully, heat rushed through her body. Her knees weakened and she cried out as pain and power spread through her bones.
Before she fell, Lucas caught her and held her close.
“Breathe, Alina, ” he said in a rough voice. “I’m here. You’re changing for the first time. It’s your rebirth.”
A soft white light wrapped around her. It felt like she was breaking apart and being rebuilt at the same time, but Lucas kept holding her.
“Why are you helping me?” she gasped.
His lips touched her forehead. “Because you are mine. Because I have waited for you my whole life.”
The light burst around her and then faded.
Alina looked down and saw white fur. She had shifted. She was standing on four legs. She was a wolf.
Lucas turned into his wolf beside her, dark and powerful.
Two wolves stood together under the moon.
The Alpha and his reborn Luna.
As they lifted their heads and howled at the sky, Alina finally understood:
This was only the beginning of her new life.
Her power.
Her place beside him.
The Luna had returned.
Alina woke up slowly. Her body felt tired and weak, like she had been running all night. When she opened her eyes, she found herself in a warm wooden room. A soft lamp glowed in the corner, and she could smell pine and smoke in the air. A blanket covered her legs.
For a moment she wondered if everything had just been a dream.
The moonlight.
The pain.
Her wolf form.
Lucas holding her.
But when she tried to sit up, the door opened, and Lucas walked inside.
His dark hair was a little messy and his golden eyes softened when he saw her awake.
“You are awake,” he said in a calm voice.
Alina swallowed. “Where am I?”
“You are in my cabin,” he answered. “You passed out after your first shift. I brought you here so you would not be alone.”
Alina stared at him. “You stayed with me?”
He nodded. “All night.”
Her heart did a small jump. Lucas had always kept his distance before. He never came close enough for her to understand what he was thinking. But now he stood only a few steps away, warm and steady.
“Does anything still hurt?” he asked gently.
“A little,” she said.
Lucas sat on the edge of the bed and carefully took her hand. His touch was warm and soft. Alina stared at their hands, surprised at how right it felt.
“You scared me last night,” he said quietly. “Your first shift was very powerful. More powerful than any Luna I have seen.”
Alina looked at him. “Lucas, what you told me yesterday… about me being your Luna… is it really true?”
He met her eyes without looking away.
“Yes. You are meant for me, and I am meant for you. I felt it the moment I first saw you, even before you knew who you were.”
Alina felt her cheeks grow warm. “Then why did you always act like you wanted to stay far from me?”
He let out a small breath, almost like a nervous laugh.
“Because every time I looked at you, I felt like I was losing control. I was waiting for the right moment. I was waiting for the moon to reveal your truth.”
Alina felt something soft grow inside her chest.
Lucas gently touched her cheek and brushed a strand of hair away from her face. His hand stayed there for a moment, warm and steady.
“And now that I know who you are,” he whispered, “I do not want to stay away anymore.”
Alina’s breath caught. She did not move away.
“Lucas,” she said softly.
He leaned a little closer. “You are safe with me, Alina. Nothing will happen to you. Not while I am here.”
Her body relaxed at his words.
He squeezed her hand. “You should rest. Your body needs time to recover.”
When he tried to stand up, Alina held his fingers.
“Please stay,” she said.
Lucas stopped. He sat back down and Alina moved closer, resting her head on his shoulder. He let out a quiet breath, surprised but happy, and wrapped his arm around her slowly.
They stayed like that, warm and close, as moonlight drifted through the window.
For the first time since her rebirth, Alina felt peaceful.
Not because she understood everything.
But because Lucas was beside her.
