Night in the pack grounds was usually peaceful, but something felt wrong. The air was too still, too cold, too quiet. Even the wind seemed to hold its breath. Alina stood on the balcony outside her room, staring up at the moon. It glowed brighter than usual, almost white, almost calling her.
Her heart beat strangely. Not fast, but deep. As if something inside her was waking again.
Lucas joined her outside. He didn’t speak at first. He simply wrapped his arms around her waist from behind and rested his chin on her shoulder. His warmth settled her nerves, but not enough. She felt the uneasiness crawling under her skin.
“You feel it too,” Lucas murmured. It wasn’t a question.
“Yes,” she whispered. “Something is coming.”
He kissed her shoulder gently. “Whatever it is, I won’t let it touch you.”
She wished it were that simple.
Before she could answer, a sharp howl tore through the night. Not the howl of a patrol wolf. Not a signal. It was a scream—raw, violent, full of pain.
Lucas stiffened. “Stay here.”
“No,” she said immediately. “I’m coming with you.”
“Alina”
“I’m not hiding while others are fighting for me.”
Lucas looked at her, eyes filled with worry and something deeper. But he nodded. “Stay close.”
They ran.
The forest was already in chaos. Shadows moved between the trees—fast, silent, unrecognizable. Wolves from the Shadow Pack had slipped through the borders without warning, as if they had been waiting for the perfect moment.
And they had chosen tonight.
Lucas shifted mid-run, his wolf bursting forward with power. Alina felt her heartbeat synchronize with his. She felt his fear for her, his protectiveness, his anger at the intrusion.
She didn’t shift. She didn’t need to. Something else was moving inside her. Something hotter. Something brighter.
A Shadow wolf lunged from the darkness, aiming straight for her. Alina raised her hand without thinking. A flash of silver light exploded from her palm, sending the wolf flying back into the trees with a cry.
She froze.
She hadn’t meant to do that. She hadn’t even known she could.
Lucas, still in wolf form, glanced back at her with wide, startled eyes. She felt his shock through their bond.
But there was no time.
More wolves poured into the clearing. The battle swallowed them whole. Lucas tore through the attackers with fierce precision. Alina used her growing power to protect those who were overwhelmed. Silver energy spread from her fingertips like moonlit fire. The wolves couldn’t approach her without being pushed back by the light.
But the attack wasn’t the worst part.
It was him.
Raven stepped out of the trees, his eyes glowing red with hunger and fury. His presence chilled the forest. The wolves around him bowed their heads.
He only had eyes for Alina.
“At last,” he whispered. “The power of the White Moon. I knew it was real.”
Lucas growled, shaking the ground.
Raven smirked. “You think you can protect her? Even you don’t know what she is.”
Alina felt something twist inside her chest. Raven’s words felt too certain, too knowing.
“How do you know anything about me?” she demanded.
“Because your power is older than you think,” Raven said. “Older than your bloodline. Older than any prophecy. You are not just a Luna, Alina. You are something forgotten. Something the moon hasn’t blessed in a thousand years.”
He lifted his hand.
Black energy burst forward like a whip.
Lucas leapt in front of her, taking the strike full force. His body hit the ground hard. The sound ripped through Alina like a blade.
“Lucas!” she screamed, running toward him.
He shifted back into his human form, blood staining his chest. He tried to stand but collapsed. His hand reached for her weakly.
“Alina… stay back.”
She didn’t listen. She knelt beside him, tears burning her eyes.
Raven laughed softly. “He can’t save you. He never could.”
Alina felt something break inside her.
Not fear.
Not panic.
Something deeper.
Something ancient.
The moon above her flared white.
Her vision blurred with silver light. The ground trembled beneath her knees. The wind roared around her, carrying the sound of her heartbeat across the forest.
Raven stepped back, startled. “Impossible…”
Alina rose to her feet. The silver glow around her was no longer gentle—it was fierce, wild, alive. It flowed through her hair, her skin, her eyes. She felt every part of the forest. She felt every heartbeat in the clearing. She felt Lucas’s pain like it was her own.
And she felt power.
Real power.
She lifted her hand toward Raven. The silver light burst outward so strongly it shook the trees. Raven raised a shield of dark energy, but it cracked instantly. His eyes widened in fear.
“This is not Luna magic,” he whispered. “This is something else…”
“Leave,” Alina said, her voice echoing unnaturally. “Now.”
Raven stumbled backward. His wolves fled. He vanished into the shadows, but not before whispering:
“I will return, Alina. The moon will not hide you forever.”
When he was gone, the forest grew quiet.
The silver light faded slowly until Alina dropped to her knees, gasping. The energy drained her, leaving her trembling and weak.
She crawled back to Lucas.
He reached up, cupping her cheek with his blood-stained hand. “Alina…” His voice was soft, almost broken. “You saved me.”
Tears fell from her eyes. “I thought I lost you.”
He pulled her close, ignoring his pain, pressing his forehead to hers. “I love you,” he whispered. “I’ve loved you from the moment I saw you glowing under the blood moon. I tried to hold it back, but I can’t anymore.”
Her breath caught. Her heart opened. And the truth slipped out of her like a prayer.
“I love you too, Lucas,” she whispered. “More than I can explain.”
He kissed her then, soft and slow, despite the blood and fear and exhaustion. It was a promise. A bond. A confession wrapped in moonlight.
When he pulled back, he looked into her eyes with awe.
“What are you, Alina?” he asked softly.
She shook her head. “I don’t know.”
But she remembered the voice inside her power. The way the moon had answered her. The way the forest had bowed to her. She remembered the way Raven had looked at her with fear.
Something ancient was waking inside her.
Something even she didn’t understand.
And destiny was far from finished with her.
