Chapter 8

Cassian broke the kiss off.

“I like your hair like this.” He commented. Ugh. I needed to try to stay away from him. I couldn’t get involved.

“Wanna dance.” The words slipped out of my mouth. I reached over away from him to get a shot. I took it.

“I don’t really dance much but sure why not.” He took a shot of whiskey.

He helped me up off the couch and held my hand while we walked down the stairs toward the dance floor. My heart was racing and I felt myself blush at the feeling of his hand caressing mine. The music was bass heavy and I was definitely feeling the alcohol. Cassian pulled me and spun me around. He placed his hands on my waist and I swayed my hips grinding up against him. f**k it. A little fun wouldn’t hurt. He instantly felt hard against my ass.

He turned me around to face him. As I gazed into his mysterious green eyes it felt like we were the only two people in the room even though there were so many gyrating bodies around us. Swept up in the moment, Cassian’s hands traveled from my waist to my ass. Juliana and Baxter came up to us. They looked a little surprised to see us like this. I stepped out of his hold. “Hey guys! What’s up?” I yelled over the music.

“We were gonna get another round. You guys should come too.” Juliana said close to my ear.

“Okay. I have to order an Uber after that though. I am getting tired.” I responded yelling over the music again.

She smiled and shook her head grabbing my hand and leading my away from the dance floor. We reached the couches again. All of us were laughing and having a really good time. I was actually happy for the first time in months. “Cheers!” We all yelled in unison clanking our glasses together. Drinking them all down we started into random conversations about various subjects. Hours passed without me realizing it. I grabbed my phone during a break from laughing at some joke Baxter cracked. The time was almost three. f**k.

“Hate to be a party pooper but I have to get back soon. I am literally exhausted.” I said pulling up my Uber app to try to find a ride.

Cassian pushed my phone down. “No, I can make sure you get home safe.” I wasn’t so sure if that was a good idea. I was pretty drunk and my self control had already been thrown out the window.

“I can probably find a driver.” I retorted not trusting myself to be alone in a car again with him.

“I have a driver that will be here in five minutes if I want him to.” He pleaded.

I sighed. “Okay.”

Juliana and Baxter exchanged looks. I flushed again.

“While we wait?” I handed a shot to everyone. They all cheered me on laughing. We all took the shot. At this point were all sufficiently wasted.

Juliana and I were being so silly and f*****g around making so many jokes. We were laughing so hard holding hands on the couch. “Wanna do something funny?” She whispered close to my ear.

I shook my head giggling.

“First, let’s take a shot. Then I’ll tell you. It will be funny to see the guys reaction.” Juliana whispered so only I could hear.

We both took and shot and I was definitely sloshed. “Okay, so just go along with me.” She laughed.

“Maisy, you are so gorgeous.” She placed her hand on my cheek. Before I could react she placed her soft lips on mine. I closed my eyes and was going to go along with it. It actually felt nice and I was already so sexually frustrated. We kissed passionately and broke away. We glanced up at the men and they had stopped chatting standing there with their mouths hanging open. Juliana and I looked at each other and started giggling so hard.

“You guys should see your faces!” Juliana said which made me crack up all over again. She was so much fun!

She rubbed her lipstick off my mouth. “I have had so much fun with you the past two days.”

“Me too.” I honestly admitted.

“The driver is here Maisy.” Cassian informed me.

“Thank you again Cassian.” I slurred a little bit. He laughed.

“Well I don’t know if this is officially goodbye but I have genuinely had a wonderful time getting to know you guys. Thank you all for being so kind to me.” I said getting drunk sappy. I hugged Juliana and then Baxter. Oh my. He smelled amazing too and was so muscular.

I broke away after I felt like we might be hugging for to long. I cast my eyes away from Cassian.

“We really hope to see you again.” Juliana cried a little and Baxter nodded stroking her back.

Cassian and I headed to his car. I was very nervous to be alone with him. What if I can’t control myself? I really want him but I don’t wanna have to deal with feelings. Which I felt like I was probably catching some.

He opened the door for me.

“Thank you.” I smiled sweetly at him.

He got in the other side and sat next to me.

“To the hotel?” Cassian asked.

“Um… No actually my friends house. I’m going to stay over and wait for her to get there. Unless she already is home. Anyway. Here is here address.” I held it up to the driver as I drunkly stammered on.

“Okay.” He looked confused but relieved it was a girl’s house. He stiffened in the car. I felt like maybe I was making a fool out of myself.

“Sorry. I think I had a little too much to drink tonight.” I apologized embarrassed. My blush came back. I felt stupid.

“No, I think it’s cute. You are fine.” He laughed a little.

Relieved I sighed and relaxed in the leather seat. I watched out the window for a little while admiring the nighttime views.

“What are you thinking about?” Cassian finally asked.

“Work.” It was true that I was worried about my job and future. I was trying to keep things to a minimum though. I was also thinking a lot about Fawn but I didn’t want to tell him what was going on.

“Ah…what do you do?” He prodded.

“Corporate attorney.” I said shortly.

“Smart and beautiful.” He mused.

I smiled and looked at him. This was going to be a long ride. I just had to control myself and everything would be fine. I was also starting to feel pretty drunk. I didn’t want to make a mistake, a sexy mistake but still a mistake, because I’m f****d up. After what felt like an eternity we finally pulled up to Fawn’s house.

Grabbing my clutch I looked at Cassian. “Thank you again. I really appreciate the kindness of you and your friends. No one except my best friend has ever made me feel so welcomed.” I was getting gushy again.

“Let me walk you to the door this time as a thank you.” He smiled deviously at me. God he was sexy.

“Fine.”I mumbled.

I got out of the car and started toward the door getting my key out.
