Chapter ten - She is not like the rest

2333 Words
Jordan's POV: I keep seeing Melanie almost every day. She comes to the coffee shop often. That made me start thinking of the note that the weird lady gave me. I still don't believe in this. All I want to know is why she gave it to me. There is a chance that she knows Melanie. Probably, they have met before. It's better if I don't know. I need to figure out what to do with this girl. I can only talk to her when she comes to the shop. I don't have her phone number or social media. Maybe it's time for me to give her mine. I'm not sure if she will use it. That is what I expect from her. That's why I have been around girls. None of them made me come back. I need to stop thinking about her and focus on myself. It's not like I have many things to do. I could've gone to university, but it wasn't my thing. I need to figure out what I want to do with my life. I can always sign up for some courses, but that won't happen now. Let's say that I still want to work. My job is not complicated, but I like it. After all, I'm not ashamed to work in a coffee shop. I don't see anything wrong with that. Also, there I met Melanie. I guess she won't go out of my mind. I don't know what to do with her. I want to say it was a mistake that she came to the shop that day. If it had been, I would've never met her. Things quickly got complicated. I was better without girls around. My mind was peaceful. Now, everything is different. She came out of nowhere but left her traces. I hope that I will figure out what I want from her. It's the weekend. That is my favorite time of the week. The plan was to spend it with the boys. Well, Dylan is busy. Jason has to study for upcoming tests. Only Noah is available. I can search for Melanie, but I have no idea where to find her. Next time I see her, I will ask for her phone number or social media account. Who knows when this will happen? Well, I hope it's soon. I want to see her again. She has something that will always make me go back to her. I woke up and checked my phone. I had a message from Noah. He wants to come home for breakfast. I believe that something has happened. I got out of bed and went to get ready. Then I went to make breakfast. Today, I'll make toast. This is not my best morning meal, but that's what I want to eat. I made four. It's always better to have more food than less. Everything was ready for half an hour. Soon, my friend came. Both of us sat down. He looks knocked out. - Hey, are you ok? - No, I'm tired. - What happened? Late-night party? - Yes. - I was joking, but ok. - Someone had a party, and I couldn't sleep. It was too loud. - You can take a nap here if you want. - No, I will be fine. I heard there was an accident. - What type of accident? - First, two boys got into a fight. I don't know if it was for a girl. Then, someone overdosed on drugs. There was an ambulance. - Do people still sell them at parties? - I don't know. Maybe they do. - Why? I know it's business, but this kills people. - It's called addiction. Many people have tried and found out that this is not their thing. Others decided to continue. That is something called a choice. - I still don't get it. - That is because you are not like them. You are from the people who don't want to waste their lives. - Of course, I don't. - See? - Eat now. The food will get cold. - It's delicious. I think you need to open a restaurant. - Maybe, but I can't cook. - That is so not true. - You are hungry. That's why you talk like that. - Lies! I like your food. - If you say so. Noah and I kept talking for some time. Later, we walked out. I have no idea where we are going, but it doesn't matter. Today, it's not that cold. This doesn't mean I shouldn't dress well. We walked around for some time. On the way, I saw Melanie with a girl. This must be one of her best friends. I want to talk to her, but I can't. She didn't tell anyone about me. Sadly, she saw me. I only smiled and walked away. That way is better. - Man, are you ok? It's like you saw a ghost. - I'm fine. - This girl keeps looking at you. - Where? - Got you! - he said and laughed - It's not funny. - Hold on! There are two girls there. Is one of them Melanie? - Maybe. - Which one? - The one with light brown hair and a white beanie. - She is pretty, but her friend looks better. - Excuse me? Is this love from the first side? - What? No. I don't even know her. - You can get to know her. - Not today. Why don't you talk to Melanie? - Because she is not alone. No one knows about me. - Why? - She doesn't want to tell anyone. I don't know why. I never asked. - I think we can talk to the girls. - No! You won't do anything. - Why? - Because we are leaving. I want hot chocolate. - You don't like this drink that much. - Whatever. Let's go. I took Noah with me. The hot chocolate thing was a lie. Let's say that I didn't want him to cause problems. We went to a small fast-food restaurant. It was almost lunchtime. Both of us sat down and ordered food. I used the bathroom while waiting. It was empty. Soon, I heard someone coming in. That is the male one, but ok. I guess it's urgent. After five minutes, she came out. - Are you feeling better? - What? - It's a simple question. - What are you doing here? - The same thing as you. - No, I meant in the girl's bathroom. - I'm sorry, but it's the boy's one. - What? - Check the sign. - Crap! I better go. - There is no need to do it. - I have to. Someone might come here. - Only my friend and I are here. There are no other boys. - Are you sure? - Hundred percent. - Thanks. How are you today? - I'm good. - I thought you had more friends. - Noah is the only one available. By the way, you can tell your friend that he likes her. - What? - When we saw you on the street, he commented on her. That's it. - I won't tell her anything. - Better. - Look. I have to go now because she is waiting for me. - It's ok. I'm glad that I saw you, even if it was for five minutes. - I will stay longer, but not now. You won't get mad, will you? - How can I? Look with who I am talking. - I said, and she laughed - If you say so. - Can I send you, miss? - Where? - To the door. My food should be here. - Sure. - Why didn't she come inside? - I was supposed to be here for a minute. - Send her my apologies. - I will. Bye. - Bye. - I said and walked back to my friend - That was a long wait. How many people were there? - Very funny. - Why don't you tell her the obvious? - Which is? - That you can't stay away from her. - This is not true. I only like talking to her. - Man, I saw the way you looked at her. What is going on? I have never seen you like that. - I don't know. She is not like the rest. - I can see that. No one else has affected you this way. - She needs to tell me something but never says when. I don't know how long I should wait. - Give her some time. I'm sure that when she is ready, she will tell you the truth. - I hope so. I have only one question for her. - Good things take time. - I know. I should be patient. - Yes, you should. - Here is the food. - the waiter said - Thank you. - This looks good. - Why are you so hungry today? - When I'm tired, I eat a lot. That keeps me awake. - Food is supposed to make you want to sleep. - It's the opposite for me. - Interesting. After lunch, Noah and I went for another walk. Later, we went back to my house. I'm not the best gamer, but I have some video games. Now, I don't use them that much. My free time is limited. Well, from time to time, I still use them. I took three games and went to the living room. I took my console and left my friend to choose the game. I went to bring us snacks. Sometimes, simple things make me happy. - Hey, do you want us to order dinner? Hello. Earth to my friend. Are you listening to me? - What? - You zoned out. What is going on inside your head? - Nothing. - I don't believe it. - Can you do me a favor? - Sure. What is it? - When will you see Melanie again? - I don't know. Why? - I want you to ask her who was the girl with her today. - Hold on. Did you fall for her? You don't even know how she looks. - I do. - How? - When you were with Melanie in the bathroom, I saw her friend waiting for her outside. She looks good. - he said, and I laughed - I will see what I can do for you, but I can't promise anything. - Thanks. I appreciate it. - What do you want me to ask about her? - Name and relationship status. - I think she is single. - I want it confirmed. - No problem. I will play Cupid for you. - Well, you don't need to go that far. - Relax. I was joking. - Also, don't tell Dylan and Jason. At least, not for now. - Your secret is kept with me. No one will know. - Thank you. I hope you have luck with Melanie. - Hold on. I never said I wanted to date her. - You don't have to do it. That is obvious. - No, it's not. - It is. Anyway. When will she tell you everything? - I don't know. I hope it's soon. - Don't worry. She doesn't look like a girl who will keep secrets from you. - We barely know each other. - This doesn't matter. - You still haven't told me what you want for dinner. - I think it's time for me to go home. - Why? - Because I spent enough time here. - Come on. I have nothing to do anyway. If you don't stay, I won't talk to Melanie. - That's not fair. - It is for me. - Fine. Why do you always have to be like that? - Because I like it. Let's order something. - I will do it. I left Noah to order whatever he wanted. The food came after an hour. He chose a restaurant which was far away from here. Only driving takes half an hour. I paid the guy and left him a tip. I like it when someone gives one to me. He was happy to receive one. I left the food in the living room and went for plates. - Here you go, sir. - Thank you. I'm sure you will like the food. - I hope so. - It got specially picked by me. - I know. I trusted you on this one. - Don't worry. I have good taste. - Are you still thinking about her? - No. - You know she is a senior. - So? Age doesn't matter. - Can you tell me how it happened? Usually, you take your time. - I don't know. I will say what you did. She is not like the rest. - he said, and I laughed - Welcome to the club. - I understand how you feel. - I told you. I don't like her. - Lie to whoever you want except for me. - I'm not lying. - Now you did. - I won't argue with you. That's it. - Let's admit it. We both like girls who are not for us. - That is true only for you. - Whatever. I invited Noah to spend the night at home. He denied it. Maybe the next time. I'm glad that we spent some time together. I don't mind Dylan and Jason, but sometimes, they speak too much. I need to talk with Melanie about her friend. I'm not sure if something will happen. Well, it's worth a try. I don't know her friends. If they are like her, my best friend will be happy. I might not be Cupid, but I will help him with everything. First, she needs to tell me something else. I still haven't forgotten about it. It's only one question. Then she can be free. I hope that the truth won't change things between us.
