Chapter 18: The Priceless Treasure

1120 Words
"Whew!" Amanda Douglas drew in a sharp breath, her eyes filled with fear! "It... it can't be that serious, right? No matter how powerful he is, doesn't he fear the police? Killing us would be breaking the law!" "Ha ha ha..." Old Master Douglas shook his head with a bitter laugh. "Child, do you really think the rules of our mundane world can bind someone of his caliber?" "Well..." Amanda hesitated, looking at the massive broken willow. She couldn't honestly claim that ordinary laws could restrain Alexander Reed. After all, his power exceeded anything she could imagine! Furthermore, it seemed Alexander had merely delivered a casual strike, not using his full strength. If he were to unleash his full power, who in this world could possibly stand against him? "Let's go! Let's see where this extraordinary man comes from!" Old Master Douglas clasped his hands behind his back and walked toward the pharmacy, with Amanda quickly striding after him on her long legs. Inside the pharmacy, customers crowded the space. Alexander went directly to the counter upon entering. "Hello, what herbs would you like to purchase?" The man attending to Alexander was a physician around thirty, wearing a white coat. He was slightly plump with fair skin, but carried a hint of arrogance between his brows! Alexander glanced at the badge on his chest: Senior Physician! To achieve such a rank at his age showed why the man might be somewhat proud. Alexander didn't dwell on it, simply pulling out a piece of paper from his pocket and handing it to the man. "Everything I need is listed here, nothing missing." The physician extended two fingertips to take the white paper. After a quick glance, his expression changed to surprise! He grasped the paper with both hands now, his face growing more serious as he read. "Sir! These herbs you want aren't cheap! Altogether, they'll cost no less than three hundred and fifty million!" "I know." "These herbs aren't just precious, many are extremely rare and will need to be sourced from elsewhere. It might take some time!" "None of that is a problem." The physician's face brightened, realizing that this unassuming man without flashy jewelry must be incredibly wealthy. His attitude immediately became more respectful. After all, for such a large order, he'd receive a significant commission! "Good! I'll place the order for you, but you'll need to pay a deposit. The rest can be paid when you collect the herbs!" "How much deposit?" The physician held up two fingers. "Twenty million." Alexander nodded, then reached into his pocket for his bank card. But as his hand entered his pocket, his brow furrowed. "I'm sorry, I seem to have forgotten my card! Could you place the order anyway? I'll have someone bring the deposit this afternoon!" The physician's face immediately fell. "Sir, please don't joke with me! An order this size - if you don't follow through, I'll be held responsible!" Many precious herbs, once shipped, would be a huge liability if left unsold. The physician would certainly face severe penalties! Alexander's brow furrowed slightly. He picked up pen and paper from the counter, wrote out a prescription, and handed it to the physician. "This prescription is worth at least twenty million, probably more. It should be sufficient as a deposit!" The corner of the physician's mouth twitched violently. A prescription worth over twenty million? Good heavens, after years of medical practice, even Old Master Douglas wouldn't dare claim his prescriptions were worth twenty million! Even one million would be a stretch! And this stranger casually writes a prescription claiming it's worth twenty million or more? What kind of divine formula could this be? Curiosity piqued, the physician glanced at it - but his expression instantly soured! It was merely an ordinary bone and blood circulation formula! He wouldn't accept it even if offered for free! Even street medicine peddlers would turn their noses up at such a thing! Without further hesitation, the physician crumpled the prescription into a ball and threw it across the counter. "What garbage prescription is this? Worth twenty million? I doubt it's worth twenty cents!" Alexander's face turned cold! "What do you mean?" "What do I mean? You have the nerve to ask me that? Let me tell you, get out of here right now. Keep fooling around and I'll call the police - believe it or not!" "Daddy! Scared!" Lyra clutched Alexander's leg, her face showing distress, perhaps frightened by the physician's harsh tone! Alexander squatted down to pull her into his arms, patting her back gently, then shot the plump physician an icy glance. "A word of advice - don't be so quick to look down on others." The plump physician laughed coldly. "Bullshit! I'd have to be brain-damaged to believe your nonsense! If you don't leave, I really will call the police!" Alexander said nothing more, simply turning to leave. Getting angry at such an insect would only demean him! North River City had more than just the Douglas Family Pharmacy! As Old Master Douglas and his granddaughter entered, they saw Alexander and his daughter leaving, which left them puzzled! "Young Wilson, was that the customer you just served? Why did he leave so quickly? And with such an unpleasant expression?" Wilson - the plump physician - snorted coldly upon hearing Old Master Douglas inquire about Alexander. "Master Douglas, that man is mentally ill! He wanted to buy rare herbs worth three hundred and fifty million! When I asked for a deposit, he said he didn't have the money and handed me some worthless muscle relaxant prescription, claiming it was worth over twenty million! Absolutely ridiculous! I threw him out!" "Oh? Where is this prescription? May I see it?" Dr. Wilson pointed at the floor where he'd thrown the crumpled paper, sneering: "There it is!" Old Master Douglas stepped forward, picked up the prescription and smoothed it out. At first glance, he couldn't help but exclaim in admiration! "Beautiful handwriting! Truly befitting a master - even the calligraphy shows exceptional skill! This writing could rival the best calligraphers in the country!" But as he read the actual prescription, his body trembled, his pupils dilating! Dr. Wilson hadn't noticed this reaction and continued his mockery: "Master Douglas, wouldn't you say this person must be insane? Trying to con us! Does he know where he is? This is the Douglas Family Pharmacy! We're not just the best in North River City, but among the finest in the entire country! Did he think his little trick would fool me? Ha ha ha... You should have seen his face when I threw him out! He must be dying of embarrassment now! What a complete i***t!"
