William Durand stepped out of the auction house, the Celestial Map clutched tightly in his hand, his cold gaze sweeping over the panicked crowd. To him, the Blackwood family was no better than dogs. In the past five years, the only lesson he had learned was that the strong always win, and the weak can only lose.
As soon as he exited, a Rolls-Royce was already waiting for him. The well-built man from earlier opened the door, inviting William into the car before driving away immediately.
"My Lord," the man spoke, "we have news about your wife. After Lucas Greene destroyed the Durand family, he didn't harm your wife but let her leave. Perhaps he wanted her to live in guilt for the rest of her life. Later, it seems the Evans family sent people to bring her back."
"Sarah..." William whispered, pain evident in his eyes.
That beautiful, pure girl had abandoned her family and cut ties with her parents for him. Yet he had been powerless to protect her. This guilt, even ten lifetimes wouldn't be enough for William to repay.
"Let's go to the Durand mansion first," William ordered. "When the time is right, I'll go get her."
"Yes, my Lord."
Sarah and the Celestial Map were different - the map was just an object, but Sarah was a living person. William felt immense guilt towards his wife. He didn't know how to face her, nor did he know if she now hated him to the bone.
The car quickly arrived at a mansion in Northbrook. This place had once been a happy home for four people, filled with laughter. If not for the tragedy years ago, it might now be a home of five or even six people.
William stood at the entrance, looking at the dilapidated mansion, his face alternating between sweetness and pain. It was in this house that he had experienced the happiest moments of his life with his parents and wife. It was also here that he had endured the most painful suffering of his life. Life was truly unpredictable, and human fate even more obscure.
As William was about to enter the house, a bright red Ferrari pulled into the parking spot of the neighboring mansion. A pair of long legs stepped out, followed by a stunningly beautiful woman. She wore a blue Chanel business suit, her hair neatly tied up, with light makeup, exuding elegance and sophistication.
She glanced at William, unable to hide her surprise at seeing someone at the run-down house next door. "Hello!" she smiled in greeting. William merely nodded in response.
William's cold reaction surprised the woman. With her top-tier beauty in Northbrook, she had never met a man who could look at her without a hint of desire. This only made her more curious about William.
"Are you... here to buy this house?" she asked.
William frowned. "You talk too much."
The four cold words didn't anger the woman; instead, they piqued her interest even more. "You're so cold! But as a neighbor, I must warn you - this house is haunted!"
Seeing William remain silent, she continued: "It used to belong to a wealthy family, but they offended a powerful force, so the owner and his parents were killed. The owner's wife survived but went mad, finally giving birth to a child who was then forcibly taken away by her birth family. That poor child was thrown away like trash!"
As soon as she finished speaking, the air around them suddenly grew colder. William's eyes turned red with blood congestion. Years ago, when Lucas Greene came, Sarah had indeed been pregnant. William thought Lucas wouldn't let the child survive, but he never imagined Sarah had given birth. He didn't expect the child to survive Lucas only to be discarded by the Evans family.
The woman beside him sneezed, rubbing her hands together. "What's going on? The weather is so strange today, it was already freezing this afternoon, and now it's even colder!"
William suppressed his anger and calmly asked, "You seem to know a lot about this family. Do you know what happened to the child?"
The corner of the woman's mouth turned up. "Finally, you ask! It seems you're not as cold as you appear! But I don't know much either, I've only lived here for just over a year. I've just heard stories from others. I only know there was a child, but I don't know what happened to her. She might have died, or maybe someone adopted her."
"Thank you."
"Is that all? You haven't even told me your name!"
"William Durand."
With that, William entered the mansion. The woman hurriedly called after him: "Hey! I'm Isabella Thompson! You..."
The door slammed shut, cutting off her words. Isabella pouted: "How heartless! If I'd known, I wouldn't have told him all that! Hmph!" She huffed and entered her own house.
Inside the mansion, William breathed heavily, his heart pounding. For five years, he thought his heart had died. Countless times he had crossed death's door, faced countless dangers, yet his heart had never beaten so strongly. But today, his heart was racing.
"Sarah gave birth to my child! Sarah had a baby! I must find them! I must!" William called out. "Michael!"
The air around him twisted, and the well-built man appeared. William's eyes blazed with a hint of madness: "I don't care how you do it, even if you have to kill everyone in Northbrook, you must find my child. Alive or dead, I must know!"
"Understood, my Lord!"
Among the leading families in Northbrook, the Blackwoods were considered number one. In his youth, old Mr. Blackwood had built his family's empire with his iron fists. Over the decades, the Blackwoods had grown and expanded, their power constantly increasing.
Faced with this giant monster that could make all of Northbrook tremble with a single stomp, very few dared to oppose the Blackwoods, let alone kill the direct heir of the family.
"Damn it! Who was it? Who dared to kill my eldest grandson?"
An angry roar echoed through the Blackwood estate under the starry night sky, making everyone in the estate tremble. Someone had dared to touch the top heir of the third generation of the Blackwoods? Heavens, was this person insane?
An order was quickly issued: "Investigate for me! You must find out the identity and location of that bastard! I will personally catch him and break every bone in his body! I want him to live in regret for the rest of his life!"
As soon as the order was given, the entire Blackwood estate was in an uproar. Countless subordinates poured out, like a pack of wild wolves hunting for prey, shattering the quiet night of Northbrook!
