•ESTELLE•
I sat on the floor in the shower, letting the water cleanse me of the blood that was pooling from between my legs.
I felt numb as I leaned my head against the wall. I remembered how Asher and I had planned the baby four weeks before our wedding, and he told me that if we were ever going to conceive, he wouldn’t allow me to touch anything in our home or work.
He was so good to me, and he didn’t ask questions when I told him I had left home because I wasn’t getting along with my father.
I never thought that he would cheat on me with his next assistant. I thought he was different and would love me regardless of where I came from.
“Miss Fenwick!” The housekeeper knocked on the door, and I closed my eyes, hoping she would go away.
“Ma’am, Mr. Blackwood wants you to join him for breakfast.”
I kept quiet and didn’t answer her. When I thought she had left, the door creaked open, and she walked inside.
“Ma’am, Mr. Blackwood—”
“Tell him I don’t want to eat,” I interrupted her sentence, wiping the tears off my face. “Close the door on your way out and leave me alone.”
“My goodness, ma’am, are you alright?” She asked when she peeked inside the shower and saw the blood.
“Leave me alone, Jennifer,” I commanded, but she didn’t listen. Instead, she turned off the shower faucet and helped me up to my feet.
She took off my clothes and turned on the faucet, letting the hot water run over my body. I winced when I felt the water stinging the wounds from last night when Dan beat me up.
I was an omega, so I healed really slowly.
“Were you pregnant, ma’am?” She asked, and instead of answering her, I looked away and let the silent tears fall from my eyes.
She cleaned me up, then gave me clean clothes and something for the bleeding. I thanked her before she left and went to make a call near the bed when the door creaked open and Dan walked in.
“Didn’t I tell you to have breakfast with me?” He roared after slamming the door behind him. “You dare to disrespect me in front of my subjects! I’m talking to you, Estelle! How dare you?!”
I stopped what I was doing, turned around, and looked at him. I scoffed before I answered him because if he hadn’t beaten me up last night, I wouldn’t have lost my baby.
“I am the daughter of your Alpha, and I deserve that respect,” I sneered, pointing my finger at him. “Not only did you abuse me last night, but you caused the death of my child. Do you know what my father will do to you when he hears about that?”
“I don’t care if you lost your damn baby. If I send someone for you, I expect you to respect that.” He leaned toward me and closed the small gap between us. “You seem to forget that if I hadn’t agreed to marry you, your father would’ve banished you for the baby you were carrying. Do you think he would’ve forgiven you for the shame you brought to his house?”
My heart skipped a beat when I realized he had done that on purpose. I hadn’t even taken in the idea of having a baby before he took the only thing that would belong to me.
It had been only a week since I found out I was pregnant with my first child, and the thought of my father having a hand in my miscarriage brought me so much pain.
“This marriage is over, Dan. As for the child you’ve shed their blood, you will pay for it. I will not stop until you have experienced the same pain that they did before I lost them.”
“Is that a threat, Estelle?” He chuckled. “I am your beta, and there’s nothing you can do to me. Since you’re my wife, and not just my Alpha’s daughter, I can treat you however I please.”
I fumed and lifted my hand to slap him on the face when he caught my hand mid-air. He grabbed my wrist, pushed me, and pinned me against the wall with his weight.
His eyes glowed bright red, and as afraid as I was, I frowned and pretended not to be afraid that he might turn right where he was and rip me into pieces.
As a beta, he was the second most powerful man in our pack and ruthless.
“Until I am done with you, you will never escape me, Estelle. Your life is mine, and I will ruin it until you’re nothing but used goods. As of this moment, you’re never leaving this room. This will be your personal cage and hell,” he seethed before he lifted my arm and sank his teeth into my skin, causing the venom in his teeth to make me weak and obedient to every word he said.
When he left and closed the door, I rolled against the wall with my back and sat down, and when I looked down at my arm, the mark that his teeth left on my skin was fading, including the wounds I endured when he beat me.
My cell phone rang, and I picked it up and answered it as I realized the bleeding had stopped as well.
“Babe, where are you? I’ve been looking for you, but your father told me you left and are at Dan’s house. What’s going on?”
“I can’t talk right now, Lydia. I’m sorry, but I’ve got to go.”
“Estelle, wait—” I hung up the call, sat on the floor, and cried.
The door creaked open, and Dan peeked inside. “Your father is here to see you. Behave, and if you mention anything about what happened between us, you’ll sleep without food. Do you understand?”
I nodded, wiped my tears, and followed him.
