Chapter 0011

•KNOX• “I am tired, Knox. If your father doesn’t want us to be together, maybe we shouldn’t be together. This entire relationship is draining right now,” Victoria complained on the phone on my way to work. I sighed as I stopped the car outside the driveway and leaned back in the chair. “I told you I would handle my father. The marriage he arranged for me means nothing to me. You’re the one I want, Victoria.” “Would you want me to marry someone else and continue dating you?” “You wouldn’t dare marry someone else while you’re mine,” I frowned. “That’s how I feel right now, Knox. You’re marrying someone else while you’re supposed to be my man. You and I have been together for two years, but you’ve failed in those years to make your father understand you want to be with me. Is it because I’ll never be part of your community?” Victoria was a special woman. Before I met Estelle, I thought it would come one day when I would see her as my mate. She was a faerie, which meant she was ancient, just like a werewolf, even though they weren’t aware of them. “You will always be a part of my community. I need you to be patient with me. Once I’m Alpha, I’ll change the rules, and you will be my Luna.” “Do you promise?” I thought of Estelle, and when I rejected our mate bond, I masked it so it would not cause us to get emotionally bonded to each other. “I promise. To show you I meant everything I had said and promised, you must come to my wedding tomorrow. That’s where I’ll show you there will be no other woman in my life but you.” *** “Sir, the CEO of Rynox has brought the contract papers for the construction site in Brooklyn. He thinks you’ll find a suitable candidate for the managerial position.” My assistant informed me over the phone when I returned home. “Thank you, Fiona. Send me the contract information electronically, and I’ll go through it overnight.” “Yes, sir.” I hung up the call, opened the front door, and walked into the house. It was awfully quiet, and I called for my father, thinking he might have gone out to see someone. “Dad!” I walked to the living room, and when I asked the housekeeper where he was, she told me he was in his bedroom and had asked for privacy. Since we had secured a contract with the Rynox company, I thought he would want to know about it. He had worked hard to ensure we collaborated with the best construction companies in the world. “Guess what, Dad?” I chuckled. “My assistant called and told me we received a contract with the Rynox company in Brooklyn. Our company will handle their construction tender and—” I opened the door, and when I walked in and found him crying with my mother’s photo frame shattered on the floor, I closed the door and walked toward him. He sniffed when the door closed and stood up from the bed, trying to collect the broken glass on the floor. “Don’t worry about it, Dad. They’ll clean it up.” I picked up the picture and looked at it. I couldn’t remember the last time I had been with my mother. We grew apart when my father took me away from her. She met another man and had children with him, and eventually, she stopped begging and asking my father to see me. “Do you miss her?” “I wanted to marry her, but I couldn’t because of the laws of our pack. To be Alpha, I had to leave your mother because she couldn’t be my mate. Our pack has forbidden our relationships with humans for years and years,” he answered as he sighed and sat on the edge of the bed. “You’re married to your mate. Isn’t that bond unbreakable, rare, and divine?” I sat beside him, curious because I had thought he felt inseparable from her. “Your stepmother is my mate and will forever be the only one in my life, but Kaitlyn will always be my first love. The girl I loved before I found out she didn’t belong in my world. So you see, I understand how you feel about Victoria. As my son and the next Alpha, your duty is to your pack and the mate the moon goddess will bring into your life.” “They approved the Brooklyn contract. Once we sign it, we will have to go there. Maybe this will give you a chance to see her.” He looked at me, almost as if he couldn’t believe I would suggest he see another woman behind my stepmother’s back. “You’re the one who will handle the contract. Kaitlyn and I are over, and I love Willow. She’s my mate and Luna. She has been by my side during all those years that I refused to see her as my wife because of the love I had for Kaitlyn. If she hadn’t been my wife and Luna, I wouldn’t have achieved half of everything I have today.” I scoffed as I walked over to the pedestal counter and placed the picture on it. “If you believed I should marry my mate, shouldn’t you have allowed me to find her instead of arranging my marriage to Leonard’s cousin?” I turned around and looked at him. “I knew Willow was my mate when I turned 18, but because I refused to marry someone dictated by the moon goddess, I left the city and met your mother in New York. So, if you had met your mate at 18, I wouldn’t have organized and arranged this marriage for you.” I realized his point and thought of Estelle. Though she was my mate, my father and our pack wouldn’t accept her as my future Luna because she was an omega. They would see her as a liability, and I didn’t want to put her through that, which was why I opted to marry Seraphina. My cell phone rang as I was about to answer him, and before I could answer the call, my father leaned toward me and placed his hand on my shoulder. “Seraphina is a bright she-wolf. She will be a smart and powerful Luna by your side. You’ve made the right choice, son.” He patted my shoulder before he walked out so I could answer the call. When I looked at the caller ID and saw Seraphina’s name, I sighed and answered it. “Hi.” “Hey, Knox. I called to let you know I can’t wait to be your wife tomorrow morning. I had a wonderful night when you came over last night.”
