Chapter 0005

•ESTELLE• “Your father doesn’t want you home, and your brother has won his favor by doing the one thing he had always wanted. What will you do?” Lydia asked on the phone, though I was hoping she would offer me advice instead of bombarding me with questions I couldn’t answer. “He’s my father, so I know he would accept me home. He won’t throw me out when I’m home, so I’m going.” “What about Asher?” “I’ll leave and say nothing to anyone. I would be like a ghost that disappeared into nowhere. Besides, he’s found what he’s been looking for. My baby and I will do fine without him,” I answered as I placed the doctor’s note on the pedestal counter and the divorce papers I had signed when they arrived in the morning. “I know you will be fine, Estelle. You always figure things out. That’s your magic.” I smiled when I heard that. Lydia always had the right words to say whenever I needed a boost. “Thank you, Lydia. That means a lot, and I’ll see you soon.” “Can’t wait. Georgina is awful at hunting. She makes the game so boring and basic. I need a thrill and a challenge, and I know I’ll have that when you’re home.” “Bye, Lydia!” I hung up the call, giggling. After taking my handbag and traveling bag, I walked out of the bedroom, and when I got downstairs, there was no one in sight, and my Uber driver was outside. When the car drove out the gate, I threw out my cell phone and slipped the new one from my handbag. I didn’t want Asher to call or text me ever again. After registering the phone with my real name, I texted Lydia to expect me in Atlanta in the morning. I booked myself a five-star hotel and wanted to see the city one more time before returning home, and also think of what I’d say to my father when I got home. After staying in my hotel room, boring myself by practicing my talk with my father, I went out and bought dinner in one of the fanciest restaurants in the city. I thought of how much I would miss the Italian carbonara dish once I was home and didn’t want to miss out on it. After getting my order, I walked to the door and lost focus for a second when I looked at the lady passing beside me as if she didn’t see me, and I bumped into someone, dropping my order on the floor. “f**k,” I swore because I couldn’t imagine queuing again for my meal after it caused a mess on the floor. “God, I’m sorry. Let me buy you another meal, please.” The guy offered as he picked up the bag and threw it in the trash bin near the door. “Don’t bother. I’ll buy something else down the street.” I attempted to walk past him before he blocked my path, and when our eyes met, something shifted. I was in a trance and felt something I never thought I would. Everyone at home knew that if you couldn’t find your mate during the mating season on your 18th birthday, it might never happen again, and I was 24 years old. “I’m sorry, I—” “Italian carbonara coming,” he smirked as he walked to the counter, and I giggled at how he could read my mind already. I wasn’t sure our kind could travel this far from Atlanta. That was why my father never wanted me to leave home, because it could be dangerous being away from our pack. *** Text: “Last night was amazing. I’m sorry things didn’t turn out as we expected.” I slipped my cell phone into my handbag, got into the cab, and it took me to the airport. I decided that if I wanted to be accepted back home, then I needed to win my father’s trust by doing everything he wanted me to do. Though what I had and felt with him was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, most werewolves could survive without accepting their mate bonds. I caressed my stomach and hoped for the best when the flight landed in Atlanta. Just as I had remembered, Blue Moon Howler’s territory looked the same way I had left it two years ago. “Estelle?” My father’s beta gasped when she saw me walking into the living room. There was a meeting down the hallway in the sitting room, and I could tell by the distinct scent. “Hi, Morgan. It’s a pleasure to see you.” I smiled as I closed the door behind me, and when her brow knitted, I knew my father had briefed her about not accepting me back to the pack. “You—” “I want to speak with my father, and I would appreciate it if you didn’t stand in my way.” I walked past her and headed to the sitting room. “It would be best to train our omega group in the training academy that my son had opened. This would be the first step to show union between the Blue Moon Howlers and the Silvermoon Pack. Nolan and his new wife should oversee the program.” My father’s voice echoed as I approached the sitting room, and when I peeked through and saw him, he immediately tilted his head and locked eyes with me. I leaned back and gave them time to wrap up their meeting before talking with him, and Morgan glanced at me with a roll of her eyes before she walked into the room. After a few minutes, the meeting ended, and my father found me waiting for him in the hallway. Nolan and his wife followed behind him. “Little sister, what a pleasure to see you. You haven’t been home in two years. Why are you here now?” Nolan asked, and just as I thought, he still didn’t like me. “Congratulations on your wedding, big brother. You’re a lucky man for having such a beautiful wife.” I smiled at them before they walked away. “What are you doing here, Estelle?” My father asked after Nolan disappeared out the door with his wife. “I’ll do everything, Father. To prove this, I’ll marry Knox and be on the front line of the Omega training. I am a skilled fighter and know many techniques that will be useful in the future when the pack needs them.” “You’re carrying a child for a man, and you want to give birth to a child who might be an omega for the future Alpha of the Blood Moon pack. Do you want me to be mocked?” “I’ll marry him after giving birth. Please don’t send me away.” “Alpha Leonard, is this your daughter we were preparing to marry my son?” someone asked behind me, and when I saw Killian approaching from the sitting room with Alpha Ryan, my heart skipped a beat. “Yes, this is my daughter, Estelle. Estelle, this is Alpha Ryan with his son, Knox.”
