Chapter 31 Shane’s last morning at home was a hot one. Rebecca’s hug was tight and warm, almost suffocating in the heat, and her hair tickled around Shane’s face. “It’s going to be strange without you,” she whispered, and Shane squeezed tighter before letting her go. “Miss you, too, Bex,” he said, and she bit her lip, trailing one of those tiny hands down his arm. The smile was sad, but resigned. “I’ll see you in July, though. Still got summer.” It was the first of May. Saturday. Shane’s exams had passed earlier than expected, and Dad wanted to use the long weekend to get moved in and settled, scope out their new home—and probably Dad’s last home—before the new posting actually started.
