The Angel Next Door
Chapter 1: The Unseen Love
Angel sat on her porch, her golden hair catching the sunlight as she watched her neighbor, Kendal, toss a football with his friends. She sighed, her heart fluttering at the sight of him. They had been best friends since childhood, but lately, her feelings had deepened into something more.
"Hey, Angel!" Kendal called, jogging over. "You coming to the game tonight?"
"Of course! Wouldn’t miss it for the world," she replied, forcing a smile.
Kendal grinned, his blue eyes sparkling. "Awesome! I’ll save you a seat."
As he walked back to his friends, Angel felt a pang of jealousy. He was dating Jessica, the popular girl who seemed all wrong for him.
Chapter 2: The Prank
The day of the prom approached, and Angel was excited yet anxious. She had heard whispers about a prank Jessica was planning.
"What do you think she’s up to?" Angel asked her friend, Mia, as they walked through the school hallway.
"I heard she’s going to make you the butt of a joke during the prom queen announcement," Mia said, shaking her head. "That girl is ruthless."
Angel’s heart sank. "Why would she do that?"
"Because she’s jealous of you, Angel. You’re the one everyone loves, not her."
Chapter 3: The Night of the Prom
The gym was decorated beautifully, but Angel felt a knot in her stomach. She spotted Kendal across the room, laughing with Jessica.
"You look stunning, Angel!" Kendal said, walking over.
"Thanks, Kendal! You look great too," she replied, her heart racing.
As the night progressed, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived. The announcer called for the prom queen nominees. Angel’s name was called, and she felt a mix of excitement and dread.
Jessica smirked as she stood beside her, ready to pull her prank. "And the winner is... Angel!"
The crowd cheered, but Jessica quickly added, "But wait! Let’s see if she can handle this!" She pulled out a bucket of confetti and dumped it over Angel’s head.
Laughter erupted, and Angel felt humiliated. Kendal’s expression changed from joy to anger.
"Jessica, that’s not funny!" he shouted, stepping forward.
Chapter 4: The Fallout
After the prank, Kendal confronted Jessica. "I can’t believe you did that. You’ve crossed a line."
"Oh, come on, Kendal! It was just a joke!" Jessica replied, flipping her hair.
"No, it wasn’t. You’re always trying to make Angel look bad. I’m done with this."
Kendal walked away, leaving Jessica fuming. He found Angel sitting alone, wiping away the confetti.
"Angel, I’m so sorry about that. Are you okay?" he asked, kneeling beside her.
"I’m fine, just embarrassed," she said, forcing a smile.
"You shouldn’t have to deal with that. You’re amazing, and you deserve better," he said, his voice sincere.
Chapter 5: The Realization
Days passed, and Kendal broke up with Jessica. He realized that he had been blind to his feelings for Angel. One evening, he knocked on her door.
"Hey, can we talk?" he asked, looking serious.
"Sure, what’s up?" Angel replied, her heart racing.
"I’ve been thinking a lot about us. I know I’ve been a terrible friend, not seeing what was right in front of me. I like you, Angel. I’ve liked you for a long time."
Angel’s heart soared. "Really? I thought you only saw me as a friend."
"No, you’re so much more than that to me. I want to be with you, if you’ll have me."
Chapter 6: Happily Ever After
Angel smiled, tears of joy filling her eyes. "I’d love that, Kendal. I’ve been waiting for you to see it."
They embraced, and in that moment, everything felt right. The sun set behind them, casting a golden glow as they shared their first kiss.
From that day on, they were inseparable. Kendal had finally found his way to the girl next door, the angel he had always needed in his life.
And they lived happily ever after.
