9 Kaighal greeted Kamira and Veelk with the stench of rotten vegetables. After departing Gaunash early in the afternoon, they’d hardly made it to the city before the guards closed the Gate of the Northern Winds. That entrance, closest to the waterfront, was mostly used by the local farmers and fishermen who lived in the settlements right outside Kaighal, and led to the poor district adjacent to the port. Her nostrils twitched when the full power of the decay hit them, but she didn’t dare complain.
