7 The yalari sat among the rubble of the Devanshari’s Great Palace in the scorched gardens where the artifact pedestal once stood. Even shattered, it continued to tease their senses, and Myrkan’s four companions revealed their uneasiness with twitches and curled wings. Their instincts still demanded destruction, and the sight of the white marble, crumbled and marked with flames and blood, did little to ease their minds. Humans might not have been much of a challenge, after all, but their world still carried the notion of unknown threats.
