📖 CHAPTER 10 – THE PULL OF THE BOND (PART 2)
The air around them shifted.
Subtle.
But real.
Leaves trembled along the forest floor, a faint ripple moving outward from where she stood.
Jay Kael’s attention snapped to it instantly.
His focus sharpened.
Not surprised.
Interested.
“You feel that?” he asked, watching her closely.
Claire nodded slowly.
“Yes…”
Her hand lifted slightly, almost without thought.
The air shimmered faintly around her fingers—like light bending, like something unseen pressing just beneath the surface.
Jay Kael stepped forward immediately.
“Stop.”
Her eyes widened, the energy flickering.
“Why?”
His voice dropped—low, controlled, edged with something dangerous.
“Because if anyone else sees that…”
His gaze hardened.
“They won’t hesitate.”
Her chest tightened.
“Won’t hesitate to what?”
He closed the distance between them again, his hand lifting to her jaw—firm, grounding, forcing her to hold his gaze.
“To take you.”
The words settled heavy.
Her breath caught.
“Take me?”
His thumb shifted slightly against her skin, not soft—but steady.
Anchoring.
“You’re not just wolf.”
Her pulse spiked again.
“You’re something else.”
And whatever that something was—
It wasn’t safe.
Not for the packs.
Not for her.
Jay Kael’s gaze didn’t leave hers.
Because now—
He understood something else.
They wouldn’t just want her.
They would hunt her.
And that—
Wasn’t going to happen.
