Mirellie The elevator ride upstairs felt painfully quiet. No one spoke after the lodge owner handed over the room cards. Cassian and the others disappeared down another hallway with lazy goodnights and tired complaints about the storm while security remained downstairs near the reception area. That left me alone beside Evander again. I kept my gaze lowered as we walked down the long carpeted hallway toward the suite at the far end. Warm lighting glowed softly against dark wood walls while rain battered violently against the tall windows lining the corridor. The storm somehow sounded louder up here.
