Issac and Jeramy were out on the streets, they were well known heroes to the civilans. They were starting their patrol to keep an eye out for “villians.” As usual, Issac was surrounded by fans asking for autographs since he was a well known hero. He signed pictures with a grin, handing them back like a seasoned pro, all the while sipping from his water bottle as if staying hydrated was part of the show. Jeramy hung back, avoiding the crowd, arms crossed, looking like he had just been dragged into an unpleasant field trip.
Any time a pretty girl he liked approached Issac, he flashed that charming smile, maybe even leaned in a little for extra effect, and the crowd squealed or blushed. Jeramy rolled his eyes, muttering under his breath,
“Seriously…do you ever take a day off being a heartthrob?”
After a few minutes, Issac finally finished with the fans. He tossed the last signed picture to a fan and waved. Jeramy walked over, shaking his head.
“You done lollygagging yet?” he asked.
“For now,” Issac said with a smirk, taking a deliberate sip from his water bottle, “You know, hydration is key. Can’t be charming without it.”
“Right… because apparently, charisma dehydrates you,” Jeramy muttered, clearly unimpressed.
“Exactly. You’d be amazed how many people die of charm-thirst every year,” Issac joked, Jeramy groaned.
“Good. Now, let’s get back to patrol before you flirt our jobs away,” Jeramy said matter-of-factly.
“Yeah, yeah…boring patrol,” Issac muttered, rolling his eyes. He took another sip from his water bottle, ignoring Jeramy’s glare,“At least I’m hydrated.”
An awkward silence settled as they walked their usual route, the sounds of the city fades into the distance.
“You know…” Issac finally broke the silence,“You make a pretty great partner, considering you’re a bit of a nerd.”
Jeramy stopped in his tracks, incredulous, “Excuse me?”
“I don’t mean it badly,” Issac added quickly, “I mean…all that brain stuff you do? Genius-level deductions, gadgets, problem solving…Plus, you can kick butt when it counts.”
Jeramy raised an eyebrow, “Sure, ays the guy who gets distracted showing off in front of fans.”
“You’re just mad you don’t have my charm,” Issac said, feigning offense.
“Keep telling yourself that,” Jeramy said, smirking.
Issac chuckled. “Well, at least I sti—”
A sudden loud bang echoed from the alley beside them. Both froze and turned.
“Lost civilian?” Jeramy whispered, attempting humor.
“Either way, protocol states we check it out,” Issac said, already stepping toward the alley with casual confidence. Jeramy sighed and followed.
The alley darkened the further they went, Jeramy pulled two flashlights from his pocket and handed one to Issac.
“Smart,” Issac said, motioning for Jeramy to keep watch, “Good thing you thought ahead. Me? I’d just…flash my smile at danger until it ran away.”
“Yeah, terrifying strategy,” Jeramy muttered, rolling his eyes.
Jeramy’s eyes darted to something glimmering in the shadows. He turned fully to see… a web.
“Umm…Issac?” he called.
“Yeah?”
“Something seems off…with this spiderweb,” Jeramy said.
Issac raised an eyebrow. “Man, I think you’re just paranoid.”
“Me? Maybe…but these aren’t normal webs, They seem…stronger.”
“Well, if that’s what you think, go ahead—explain,” Issac said with a smirk, clearly enjoying Jeramy squirming.
Jeramy hesitated, then approached the web, It glimmered faintly in the dark, illuminating parts of the alley. When he touched it, the strands didn’t break like normal spider silk.
“Huh…weird,” he muttered.
“So?” Issac prompted.
“Seems like… spider silk,. But bigger, stronger, definitely not your average spider,” Jeramy said.
“Silk?” Issac asked, curious.
“Yeah,” Jeramy confirmed.
Suddenly, realization struck them both.
“Wait—”
“Silkara,” Issac said, his tone darkening.
“I knew it!” Jeramy exclaimed.
As if on cue, a figure spun down gracefully from the web above them.
“You called?” her British accent thick “Missed me?”
“Not one bit. But hey, now I can finally catch you,” Issac smirked.
“Ha! Like you ever could.” She giggles adjusting her back mask painted with what looked like a jester hat.
