Jennifer’s POV
“Thank you.” I said while smiling at the lady from whom I got my schedule for this semester and the keys to my locker.
“Have a great day, dear” she said while reciprocating the smile with one of her own warm one.
“You too” I said before coming out of the office.
Finally I am starting my first year as a college student in my dream university. I really can’t believe it.
Getting admission in one of the most prestigious university felt so impossible until last year. Especially when you know that this place is mostly consists of elites.
Almost all the students in this university come from a rich and high class family, a society where people like me are not welcomed warmly.
Except for the Amber and her family of course. She also comes from a wealthy family but she is very different from the other rich people I have come across in my life.
There are some students who got the chance to study here despite their humble backgrounds, including myself. But it took a lot of hard work.
Getting the scholarship to enter this university was more than just a piece of cake. But when I got the letter of acceptance along with the scholarship, it seemed like all my hard work paid off. Being a good student with grade A, was not in vain after all.
I put all of the papers which I got from the office in my bag while making my way towards the elevator on this floor.
Currently I am in C wing. I have to go to the B wing to attend the first lecture.
As I waited for the elevator, my mind went back to the conversation I had with Amber a while ago.
‘Red Alert’.
What in the hell is this?
Amber seemed very concerned, almost a little scared when she was talking about it, or I should say them?
She clearly said ‘People’ when referring to them.
What are they? Who are they? Are they group of teachers like Mrs. Black who give hard punishments? Or a group of….
I was brought out of my thoughts by the ding of elevator.
Deciding to focus on my studies instead of some red alert, I lifted my eyes up to see the door of elevator slide open.
Just as I was about to take a step forward, my body froze on my place upon witnessing the scene in front of my eyes.
My eyes were as wide as saucers as I saw a couple my age kissing each other passionately inside the elevator. They were all over each other.
The girl, who had blonde hair, her back was facing me as her entire body was pressed against the guy who was leaning his back against the wall of elevator.
‘What are they doing? Couldn’t they do it somewhere else?’
I would have definitely shouted ‘Get a room guys’, if I wasn’t so shocked right now.
This is a public elevator. Anyone can see them in such a… compromising position.
The fact that the principal’s office is on this same floor is making ME scared on their behalf.
Aren’t these two afraid that the principal can see them doing this?
‘Why do I even care?’
Shaking my head to pull myself out of the state of shock I just went in because of these two who are busy in making out instead of being in their class, I decided to just look away and wait until the door closes so that I don’t have to keep seeing them.
But just as I was about to look away, the guy in the elevator opened his eyes and I found myself staring right into the most mesmerizing pair of blue orbs I have ever seen in my life.
My breath hitched, for an unknown reason.
My body froze, as if those blue eyes have pinned me down on my place. I couldn’t look away.
‘What are you doing Jenny? Why are you staring into the eyes of the guy who is kissing someone else? Look away’ I told myself and tried to pull myself together.
‘I should just take the stairs. Yes, I should…’ my train of thoughts came to a sudden halt when a deep honey voice fell on my ear.
“What are you staring at Nerd?”
Now I was back to my senses. I was so lost that I didn’t even notice when they stopped kissing.
I glanced at the girl for a brief moment to find her throwing daggers in my direction through her eyes.
“I I am sor… Excuse Me!” I was about to apologize for staring when something clicked in my mind and the look of sorry turned into a scowl.
‘Nerd? Did he just called me Nerd?’
Okay, I admit that the way I am dressed right now is kind of similar to how we think nerds dress. But still, calling someone nerd to their face is kinda disrespectful.
“You can’t call me…” he ignored my words and said cutting me off, “Didn’t anyone teach you that staring is bad manners, Huh? NERD?”
He asked while putting more than necessary emphasis on the last word, as if he was trying to mock me.
The girl in the elevator chuckled at his words and I wondered what was so funny about what he said.
The guy smirked upon seeing the pissed off expression on my face and I had to push the urge to wipe that smirk off of his face.
‘Calm down Jenny. Ignore them. It’s your first day here and you don’t wanna make enemies in here right from the get go. You want your time here to be peaceful, right? So just ignore them’. I told myself.
Without saying anything or even bothering to answer his questions, I just turned on my heels and started walking towards the stairs. I’ll use them to go down.
I thought I will hear some snide remarks from them but to my surprise they didn’t say anything.
I turned to my left and opened the door which leads to the emergency staircase but before going through it, I glanced back towards the elevator, for a reason I am not aware about.
My eyes widened when I found those blue eyes still stuck on me.
I immediately looked away and entered the door with a loudly beating heart as I wondered,
‘Why was the door of elevator open for so long? Why didn’t it close?’

“See you tomorrow” Sara said with a smile while waving.
“See ya” I said while reciprocating her smile.
I met her during the first lecture today and our vibes matched instantly. I am glad that I found someone who will be there with me during my classes as Amber is in different major than mine.
After bidding farewell with Sara I made my way towards my locker. It’s quite rare that the universities provide locker facility to their students. It’s common in high school but not in university.
The locker room was almost empty. Hardly one or two students were here. Probably everyone already left as I came here fifteen minutes after the last class ended as I went to check the library with Sara.
I put all of my books in the locker and took the book which I will need.
Just as I was about to lock my locker, I heard a girl with a very high pitched voice saying from behind me, “Here you are”.
I turned around and frowned upon realising that she was talking to me.
“Excuse me?” I asked in confusion. I looked around to make sure that she was actually talking to me or not. And I found out that there was no one else here.
I again set my eyes on that girl. I don’t think I recognise her. But the way she said ‘here you are’, sounded like she was looking for me. But why??
The girl scoffed and let out a humourless chuckle probably at my reaction before she folded her arms over her chest and glared at me.
“What were you staring at earlier, huh?” she asked.
Realisation hit me. It took me a while to recognise this blonde.
‘That’s because you were so busy in ogling the guy who was with her’ my mind reminded and I let out a sigh.
It’s true. I don’t know what happened at that time but I just couldn’t take my eyes off of him.
“Are you trying to ignore me?” she shouted in anger bringing me out of my thoughts. Her high pitched voice penetrated through my ears, irritating the s**t out of me.
I was about to answer her question but before I could open my mouth and utter even a single word, she spoke again,
“Wait… are you mute?” She asked with a mocking smirk on her face and I heard the sound of laughter coming from behind her.
‘Oh, she has brought two minions with her’ I realised. I didn’t see them until now.
“No I am not. And about your previous question… I didn’t mean to stare at you and I am really sorry for…” I was cut off when she suddenly took a threatening step towards me and said, “You didn’t mean to, huh?”
“But you surely were staring at my boyfriend. Do you think I didn’t notice, you bi*ch?” she shouted at my face making me close my eyes, not due to fear, definitely not. But in irritation.
It’s just that her voice, her way of talking is really pissing me off. And to top it all, she just called me a bi*ch.
I opened my eyes to find her glaring at me and sighed. I can give her a proper answer to her insults but I know that I am at fault here.
I shouldn’t have stared at her boyfriend like that. If I was in her place and someone was looking at my boyfriend like that then I would get angry too.
So I opened my mouth to apologize again but she beat me to it and said, “You are a scholarship student, right?”
I frowned in confusion. ‘How does she know?’
“I know what kind of intentions you poor people have” her words caused the frown on my face to be replaced by a scowl.
“Girls like you are always in search of a chance. A single chance to meet a rich guy so that you can seduce them. You don’t care if they are taken or not. You just crave for their attention, like a slut. That is why you were trying to seduce my boyfriend, right? Bloody low class b**ch”.
By the time she was done talking my insides were burning in anger. My jaw was clenched, my hands were balled into fists to my side as I glared at her.
‘How dare she? Who does she think she is?’
I am raging right now.
But instead of lashing out at her, I closed my eyes for a second and took in a deep breath to calm down.
Opening my eyes I saw her smiling evilly as if she was happy that her words affected me.
But she doesn’t know that I am not an easy target. I am not one of those girls who start crying after hearing such words and hide in their rat’s hole for the rest of the year.
I know how to deal with these bitchy spoilt brats. Getting angry at them for insulting you is not how you put them in their place. You have to do something else.
I folded my arms over my chest and gave her my sweetest smile which definitely took her by surprise as her smile dropped instantly.
“You seem to know too much about us low class people. How?” I asked with a raised brow.
“Do you also come in our category of poor people? Or you have experience in seducing rich guys like you just mentioned now? What did you say… huh?” I acted like I am trying to remember.
“Aahh.. ‘like a slut’, right? But you know what, to me, you seemed to do exactly that same thing in the elevator earlier, acting like a sl*t, am I right?” I asked in calm tone.
Now it was her turn to clench her fists in anger. She took a angry step towards me as she started,
“How dare yo…”
“How dare YOU?” I cut her off as I also dropped my act and used my coldest tone. “I get that I shouldn’t have stared at you guys and I already apologized for that. But you insulting me like this, for that, is just too much. That wasn’t necessary”
“Also, I don’t take disrespect from anyone Miss… whatever you are? If you are going to give me some, then you are going to take that as well. You know, I believe in ‘Tit for Tat’” I said while staring right into her eyes.
She let out a humourless chuckle, “You don’t know who I am, do you?”
“And I am not interested to know” I replied in the same tone as she used.
“Also, you talk too much. Let’s see if you will be able to do the same in near future. I would genuinely like to see you crying and begging in front of me, I swear” she said with a glint of evilness in her eyes. Her words laced with threat.
But ignoring all of that I just smirked and replied, “Dream on”.
“Let’s see if it’s just my daydream or if it’s going to become your nightmare. It’s going to be interesting” she said with an evil smirk before turning on her heels and walking out of the empty locker room with her minions following behind her.
And I just stood there wondering,
‘What was that all about?’
