When I was seventeen and in that relationship with my first girlfriend, the evil cheating one, an adult person in my life suggested I read Codependent No More. Already having a well-established core belief that the answer to everything can always be found in books, I dutifully marched into the bookstore and bought a copy. I don’t recall reading it in its entirety. To me it was about how to resolve and/or handle having a relationship with an alcoholic, which, ironically, meant zero to me at the time.
