Chapter Sixteen Ramsay said politely, “I should be making my way out now, too. Thanks for being here while I spoke to Haskell, Betty.” “I’m so sorry for his attitude. He’s not usually like that, you know.” Ramsay said, “It’s all fine, Betty. I was a parent of a teenager once myself, you know. I remember.” Beatrice couldn’t imagine that Ash had ever been anything remotely like Haskell. After Ramsay left, Betty apologized to Beatrice, too. “It was so good to have someone here for support. That was hard for me to listen to.” Beatrice gave her a reassuring smile. “But it ended up all right, didn’t it? It sounds as if he’s got at least one alibi.” Betty said, “Oh, I hope so. I really do. I’ve been praying about Haskell every night. He’s become such a handful and I can’t figure out why. H
