I smiled softly as I slid out of the cab, leaning back in to pay the driver. Shouldering my bag, I looked up at my building and sighed. “Home sweet home,” I muttered, walking up the steps and struggling a bit with the door. After coming up with some rather inventive curses in my head, I finally made it through the door and up the stairs to my apartment. I unlocked the door and stepped in, letting my bag drop to the floor. “Honey, I’m home!” I called to the empty space. Deafening silence hit me like a ton of bricks. What had I been expecting—Marsh to be waiting on my doorstep when I arrived?
