EPISODE 13: Spiral

Some people fall apart quietly. Peter DeLuca didn’t. He crashed. THE FIGHT It started in the locker room. No warning. No build-up. Just rage. “You think that was funny?” Peter’s voice was low. Dangerous. Luca barely had time to react. “Man, I didn’t—” The punch landed before he could finish. Hard. Luca stumbled back, hitting the lockers. “What the hell is wrong with you?” he snapped, wiping blood from his lip. “You filmed her,” Peter said, stepping forward again. “You sent it. You humiliated her.” “I didn’t think—” “That’s the problem,” Peter cut in. “You don’t think.” Another punch. This time Luca fought back. And just like that— It turned into a full fight. Fists. Shoving. Anger spilling everywhere. Teammates rushed in, trying to pull them apart. “Yo, stop!” “Coach is coming—” “Break it up!” But Peter didn’t stop easily. Because this wasn’t just about Luca anymore. This was about you. And what he let happen. THE NEWS SPREADS By lunch— Everyone knew. Peter and Luca fought. Bad. Bloody. Messy. “Did you hear?” “They went at it.” “Over her.” And just like everything else— It reached you. AVA — HEARING IT You were sitting with Ethan when it happened. Mid-conversation. Mid-laugh. Then— “Peter beat Luca up,” someone said nearby. Your body went still. Just for a second. Ethan noticed. “You okay?” You nodded quickly. “Yeah.” Lie. Because your chest tightened. And you hated that it did. Hated that his name still affected you. Hated that you cared. Even after everything. PRETENDING TO MOVE ON You tried. You really did. Ethan was good to you. Easy. Safe. No games. No chaos. No pain. You sat closer now. Talked more. Laughed easier. And to everyone else? It looked like you were moving on. Like you had replaced Peter. Like you were fine. But you weren’t. Because every time Ethan’s hand brushed yours— It didn’t feel the same. Every time he looked at you— It didn’t hit as deep. Every time he made you smile— There was something missing. And you hated that. Because you knew exactly what it was. Peter. PETER — OUT OF CONTROL Peter didn’t care about the consequences. Suspension from practice? Didn’t matter. Coach yelling? Didn’t matter. Nothing mattered. Except one thing. You. And the fact that he lost you. He stood across the courtyard again. Watching. Like he always did now. You and Ethan. Close. Laughing. But this time— Something felt off. Not in you. In him. Because the jealousy? It wasn’t sharp anymore. It was heavy. Dark. The kind that sits in your chest and doesn’t go away. The kind that makes you want to do something reckless. THE CONFRONTATION (AGAIN) He couldn’t take it anymore. Peter walked over. Straight toward you. Ethan noticed first. Of course he did. “Hey,” Ethan said, standing slightly straighter. Peter ignored him. “Ava.” You sighed softly. Like you expected this. “Peter, don’t.” “I need to talk to you.” “No, you don’t.” That hit. But he didn’t stop. “I’m not leaving until you listen.” Your eyes met his. And for a second— Everything else disappeared. Because despite everything— It was still there. That pull. That connection. That feeling. And you hated it. “I said no,” you repeated. Your voice was stronger this time. Colder. Final. Peter stepped closer anyway. “Just five minutes.” “No.” Ethan stepped in slightly now. “She said no.” That did it. Peter’s eyes snapped to him. “Stay out of it.” “You don’t get to talk to her like that,” Ethan replied calmly. Silence. Tense. Dangerous. Peter stepped closer. “You don’t know anything about this.” “And you do?” Ethan shot back. You stood up quickly. “Stop. Both of you.” Your voice cut through everything. And just like before— Peter listened. But this time— It wasn’t enough. Because the damage was already done. THE TRUTH YOU CAN’T ESCAPE You looked at Peter. And your voice softened— Just slightly. But not enough to let him in. “You don’t get to fight people because of me.” “I’m not—” “Yes, you are,” you cut in. “And it doesn’t fix anything.” Silence. Because he knew that. But he didn’t know what else to do. And that? That was new. “I messed up,” he said finally. Honest. Raw. “I know.” That hurt more than anything else. Because you didn’t argue. Didn’t deny it. You just… agreed. “And I’m trying to fix it.” “You can’t.” There it was again. That word. Final. FEELINGS THAT WON’T DIE You stepped back. Closer to Ethan now. Not touching. But close enough. A message. Clear. But your eyes— They didn’t lie. Because for a second— They softened. Just a little. And Peter saw it. That tiny crack. That tiny piece of you that still cared. And that? That was enough to keep him going. Even if it destroyed him. You turned. Walked away with Ethan. But this time— It wasn’t as easy. Because no matter how hard you tried— You couldn’t force your heart to forget him. And Peter? He stood there. Bruised. Tired. Broken. But not done. Because if there was even a small part of you left— He was going to fight for it. No matter what it cost him.
