The knock on my door came just as I was about to lie down. I frowned, pulling the robe tighter around myself before opening it. Ann stood there, hands full an elegant garment bag draped over her arm, a shoe box tucked against her side. “Mrs. Miller,” she said carefully, “Mr. Miller sent me.” My heart skipped, betraying me before my mind could catch up. “Sent you for what?” She hesitated, then lifted the bag slightly. “He said you’re attending a family party with him tonight.
