Narrator’s POV
The air went still and nobody moved.
Zaira felt her heart beating in her ears. She wondered if the beasts in front of them could hear it too.
She started to tremble when she made eye contact with a beast that seemed to be drooling.
“Zaira, calm down.” Zade’s arm around Zaira tightened up. Zaira stiffly leaned into his embrace. Her body trembling. Fear gripped her. Although she had not seen how the beast killed, she had heard a detailed explanation from Kane and the thought of getting caught by one of them was jarring.
“Kane, what do we do?” Zade softly asked as his eyes glared into the swarm of beasts in front of them. Kane was the best at tactical decisions in times like these.
