Even though I had already seen the bathing chamber—all gleaming crystal and impossible magic--I was still flabbergasted when my handmaiden escorted me there. Eventide showed me how to adjust the waterfall's temperature with a simple gesture, her slender fingers dancing through the air like she was conducting an invisible orchestra. "Just wave your hand like this," she demonstrated, "and think of how warm you want it." I tried, feeling ridiculous until the water actually responded, shifting from steaming hot to a perfect temperature. "Well, that beats twisting knobs," I muttered, still pretending to be cool while my mind was blown. Eventide smiled, her midnight-blue eyes crinkling at the corners. "Not everything here is meant to intimidate. Some magic simply makes life more pleasant."
