SAVANNAH I woke to cool air on my face, my body feeling like it was floating. The first thing my brain registered wasn't pain, surprisingly, but a refreshing chill—like sinking into a cool bath after running a marathon. A magical, almost-dying marathon. Which, for the record, I wouldn't recommend to anyone. My eyelids felt like they'd been glued shut with industrial-strength superglue.
