Aiden’s POV
Over the next few weeks, Aiden threw himself into his training, determined to prove his worth as a leader. He worked tirelessly on his physical conditioning, honing his senses and reflexes, and learning how to fight with his other senses heightened to compensate for his blindness.
Eric pushed Aiden hard, but he never gave up. Every setback only made him more determined, and every small victory only made him more confident. Aiden was becoming stronger and more capable with each passing day, and he could feel the power building within him.
As the day of the Alpha challenge drew near, Aiden knew that he was ready. He had trained harder than anyone else, and he had the strength and the will to lead his pack to greatness. All he had to do now was prove it.
Aiden and Eric were walking back to the pack house after an intense training session. Aiden’s hands were still bruised and bloodied due to the punching bag being laced in silver.
As they walked, Eric spoke up. "Aiden, have you thought about how the Elders might react once they find out you want to compete in the competition? You know they are not going to be happy about this, right?"
Aiden nodded, "I know, but I have to try. I can't just sit back and let someone else take the position that I was born to have. Plus, they said anyone can compete and when I am named victor, what right will they have to ever question my right as Alpha again?"
Eric sighed, "I understand that, but you have to be prepared for the backlash. They may see it as a sign of weakness that you are willing to compete despite your blindness."
Aiden stopped in his tracks and turned to face Eric, "I am not weak, and my blindness does not define me. I have been training my whole life for this, and I am ready to prove myself."
Eric placed a hand on Aiden's shoulder, "I know you are strong, and I believe in you. But we have to be smart about this. We should consider visiting the oracle to see if they can help us find the witch who cursed you. That could give you an advantage in the competition."
Aiden thought for a moment and nodded, " You mean that crazy old bat?"
Eric chuckled, "Yes, that 'crazy old bat' who has helped the pack many times before. She may be eccentric, but she knows things that no one else does. And if she can help us find Seraphina Nightingale, it could give us an edge in the competition."
At the mention of Seraphina’s name, Algonquin growled so fiercely that the trees surrounding the pack land vibrated. It disgusted them to think they once considered making her Luna of this pack.
****Flashback****
Aiden took a deep breath as he walked hand in hand with Seraphina through the woods. He had been planning this moment for weeks, and he was nervous but excited to finally ask her to be his mate.
"Seraphina, I need to talk to you about something," Aiden said, his voice filled with nervous emotion.
Seraphina looked up at him with those big green eyes he had fallen madly in love with and seductively smiled, saying, "What is it, my love?"
Aiden took her hand and got down on one knee. "Seraphina, you are the love of my life, and I can't imagine spending it with anyone else. Will you do me the honor of being my mate?"
Seraphina's eyes filled with tears as she smiled and threw her arms around Aiden. "Yes, of course, I will," she said, kissing him passionately.
Suddenly, Aiden felt the silver blade pierce deep into his back as Seraphina slowly stepped away with a sinister smile on her face.
Aiden fell to the ground, paralyzed with pain and shock. Suddenly, his half brother Andras steps from the shadows to embrace Seraphina in a deep kiss.
Seraphina and Andras continued to kiss, with Seraphina occasionally glancing over her shoulder at Aiden writhing in pain on the ground.
Andras eventually pulled away, looking at Seraphina, "I don't like seeing you kiss him like that!" he said.
Seraphina shrugged, a wicked glint in her eyes. "It was necessary to sell the act and you know I never enjoyed it. Now that he’ll finally be out of our way, we can go live happily ever after."
Andras nodded, but his brow furrowed with worry. "What about the pack? What will they do when they find out we killed their Alpha?"
Seraphina laughed, "Don't worry about that. Once Aiden is out of the way, you'll take his place as Alpha. We'll have complete control over the pack."
Meanwhile, Aiden lay on the ground, trying to process the pain and the betrayal. He could hear their conversation and it only made the situation worse. How could he have been so blind to Seraphina's true intentions?
He mustered the strength to sit up, leaning against a nearby tree, and called out to them, "How could you do this, Seraphina? I loved you!"
Seraphina turned to him with a sneer, "Love? You were always so foolish, Aiden. You really believed I loved you, didn't you? You were so blinded by your own infatuation that you didn't even realize that you were under my spell."
Aiden's eyes widened in shock and disbelief. "What are you talking about? What spell?"
Seraphina chuckled. "My dear Aiden, you were enchanted by my magic, specifically my green eyes. You were completely blinded by your own infatuation that you couldn't see the truth. I never loved you. I only used you to get what I wanted, and now I have it, so you shall cease to live."
Aiden's heart sank as the truth finally hit him. He had been a fool to trust Seraphina, to think that she loved him. He had let his own desires and infatuation cloud his judgment, and now he was paying the price.
As he lay there, struggling to breathe, a burst of energy rushes through him as Algonquin takes control, leaping towards Andras. In the blink of an eye, Andras was torn in two as Seraphina screamed for her loss.
The pack had been alerted by the bond and arrived at the scene just in time to witness the gruesome end of Andras. Seraphina stood frozen with fear and shock as the wolves surrounded her, their eyes blazing with fury.
Algonquin stepped forward, his voice booming with authority. "You will pay for what you have done," he snarled at Seraphina.
Slowly, she backed away, her eyes darting from wolf to wolf, muttering under her breath some incoherent words.
The wolves watched her warily, sensing the danger that still emanated from her. Seraphina's powers had always been a source of fear and fascination to them, and they knew better than to underestimate her.
As she continued to mutter her incantations, the air around them seemed to thicken, and a faint purple glow surrounded her. The wolves braced themselves, ready for whatever she was about to unleash.
Seraphina's chanting grew louder, and the purple glow around her intensified. Suddenly, a blinding light burst forth from her, engulfing the entire clearing. When the light faded, the wolves looked around, disoriented and confused.
Aiden, lying on the ground, slowly sat up, feeling different. He rubbed his eyes, but his vision remained blurry. "What happened? Where is Seraphina?" he asked, his voice shaking with shock.
The wolves looked at him, but none of them spoke. They knew that Seraphina had cast some kind of spell on him, but they didn't know what it was or how to reverse it.
Aiden stumbled to his feet, feeling disoriented and weak. He tried to take a step, but his foot caught on a root, and he fell to the ground. The wolves watched him, concerned but unsure of what to do.
As they stood there, they suddenly realized that Seraphina was gone. She had disappeared, leaving no trace of where she had gone. The wolves looked at each other, realizing that they had let her slip away, and now they had to deal with the aftermath of her magic.
****End of Flashback****
Abruptly jolted back into reality, Aiden had to agree with Eric. "You're right. We have to do everything in our power to ensure I keep my title after this competition."
Eric grinned, pleased with Aiden's determination. "That's the spirit. We'll book an appointment with the oracle tomorrow and see how she can assist us. For now, get some rest and conserve your strength."
Aiden nodded, feeling even more motivated to prove his worth as the pack's true Alpha. He knew that the journey ahead wouldn't be easy, but he was ready to face any challenge that came his way.
