Amira was in the living room folding Ayra’s clothes when she heard the door slam open Jace had returned and the sound of his heavy steps made her body freeze for a second She took a deep breath steadying herself but something in his walk told her this time was worse than the others He stormed in eyes wild the smell of alcohol pouring from him like sweat What did you do he shouted again louder than ever his voice cracking with rage Amira turned slowly standing tall I did what you forced me to do I protected myself He laughed a bitter sound full of madness You think you're clever playing little games behind my back His voice grew louder and his hands were shaking with fury I gave up everything for you and this is how you repay me he yelled stepping closer until he was chest to chest with her She stepped back one slow step at a time trying to keep calm but her heart raced He kept shouting words full of hate calling her names accusing her of ruining his life with her silence Amira tried to speak but he wouldn’t let her You’re nothing without me he screamed your life is nothing without my name She clenched her fists holding back the tears refusing to give him the satisfaction Jace stepped closer again his hand raised but she flinched before he could touch her Don’t touch me she said quietly but firmly and that made him even more angry He grabbed her wrist hard twisting it and dragging her toward the stairs You’re leaving then go now he growled pushing her toward the front hallway Amira pulled her arm free and tried to step back but his rage snapped He shoved her hard in the chest before she could move and her foot slipped on the step She felt herself falling backward the world spinning around her like a blur Her back hit the edge of the stairs before her head slammed against the wooden rail The pain shot through her body in sharp waves and everything around her turned black for a second She couldn’t scream she couldn’t speak all she could feel was the weight of her body crashing down step by step The fall ended with a heavy thud her body lying still at the bottom of the stairs Jace stood above her breathing hard his hands still clenched He didn’t move not to help not to call for help not even to check if she was alive He stared for a moment then turned and walked away like she meant nothing Amira’s eyes fluttered open pain shooting through her belly and chest She reached a trembling hand to her stomach her fingers already wet with blood Her voice broke into a whisper as she said one word No She didn’t know how much time passed before Tanya appeared coming down the stairs and gasping at the sight She screamed Jace Jace she’s bleeding oh my God Jace Amira tried to speak but her throat was dry her lips barely moving Help me she whispered but everything around her was spinning again She saw Tanya run back up the stairs yelling but Jace never came back down Someone eventually called an ambulance she didn’t know who and the next thing she remembered was the bright lights in the hospital The pain in her lower belly was sharp and constant and she could barely keep her eyes open The nurse asked her name the doctor asked questions she didn’t hear them She kept whispering the same thing over and over Save my baby please save my baby But deep down she already knew it was too late Hours later she woke in a hospital bed her arms hooked to wires and a nurse standing beside her The nurse’s face was kind but sad and Amira already knew before she spoke I’m sorry you lost the baby the nurse said gently and everything inside Amira shattered Her eyes filled with tears but none of them fell she was too broken to cry She turned her head to the wall and whispered a quiet goodbye to the life that would never be born Her hands clutched the thin bedsheet her body still in pain but her heart hurting more than anything She thought of Ayra her little girl her only light She had to live for her she had to escape this hell for her Jace didn’t come to the hospital not once not even to pretend Tanya sent a message to check if she was okay but Amira didn’t reply She didn’t need fake sympathy She needed freedom When the doctor came back in he told her she was lucky to be alive The fall had almost broken her spine the blood loss could have killed her if she arrived minutes later He asked what happened if someone pushed her but she said nothing Just a fall she whispered eyes cold and empty But inside she made a promise to herself That was the last time she would ever stay silent That was the last time Jace would ever lay a hand on her That child may be gone but she still had Ayra and she still had her strength When she left that hospital she would not go back to that house not even to pack She would start over she would rise from this pain like fire She would destroy every piece of Jace’s fake world and she would make him regret ever touching her When the nurse stepped out Amira reached for her phone with shaking hands She called her lawyer told him to file the divorce papers immediately and to add the hospital report to the case She then called the manager of her new apartment and asked them to have the keys ready in two days She would take Ayra and disappear without warning this time no more chances She had nothing left to wait for the baby she carried was gone the man she married was a monster She was done with hiding done with hurting and done with losing Tomorrow would be the beginning of her revenge And when she rose back up no one would be able to stop her Not Jace Not Tanya Not the pain No one
