Chapter 7:The Truth in Blood

1165 Words
Selena felt the room closing in on her. Her heartbeat thundered in her ears, each word Sophia spoke slicing through her carefully constructed reality. A lost bloodline. A descendant. “No,” she whispered, shaking her head. “That’s impossible. My mother was—” She stopped herself, memories flashing through her mind like fragments of a dream. She was just… my mom. Kind, distant at times, always watching her as if she carried some terrible secret. A sinking feeling settled in her stomach. “What exactly are you saying?” Selena forced the words out, her voice raw. Sophia’s sharp gaze didn’t waver. “That your blood is special, child. A rarity among our kind. You may not be a wolf, but you are bound to this world in ways you do not yet understand.” Damian shifted beside her, tension radiating from his frame. “I suspected something, but I needed confirmation,” he admitted. “The rival pack isn’t after you just to get to me, Selena. They need you.” Selena let out a bitter laugh, the absurdity of it all threatening to consume her. “Need me for what? I’m not some mystical savior, Damian.” Sophia leaned forward, her voice low but commanding. “No, you’re something much rarer.” The air in the room grew heavy, an unseen force pressing against Selena’s skin. She wanted to run, to deny it all, but something in her gut told her that Sophia wasn’t lying. “What am I?” she asked, barely recognizing her own voice. Sophia’s gaze locked onto hers. “You are the last of the Blood Moon Line.” The room fell silent. Selena blinked. “The… what?” Damian exhaled sharply. Xander, who had been leaning against the doorframe, finally straightened, his expression shifting into something far more serious. “That’s not possible,” Xander muttered, his eyes flickering between Sophia and Damian. “The Blood Moon Line was wiped out over a century ago.” “Clearly, it wasn’t,” Sophia said coolly. Selena turned to Damian, panic rising in her chest. “Will someone please tell me what that means?” Damian rubbed the back of his neck, looking as if he didn’t quite know how to explain. “The Blood Moon Line was a bloodline of humans born with a rare connection to our kind. They weren’t wolves, but they had abilities that made them powerful. Some say they could command alphas, others claim they had the ability to control the shift itself.” Selena stared at him. “You’re saying I have powers?” Sophia nodded. “If your abilities have not surfaced yet, they soon will. The rival pack likely knows this. That’s why they want you, Selena. If they can control you, they can control the balance of power between the packs.” Selena’s chest tightened. This was too much. Her entire life had been ripped from under her, and now she was supposed to believe she was some kind of—what? Magical weapon? “No,” she said firmly, stepping back. “You’re wrong. My mother wasn’t—she never told me any of this.” “She wouldn’t,” Sophia said gently. “She spent her life hiding you, protecting you. But secrets have a way of catching up.” Selena turned away, her thoughts a tangled mess. She wanted to scream, to run, to wake up and find out this was just some insane nightmare. Damian’s hand brushed against hers, grounding her. “I know it’s a lot,” he said softly. “But you need to understand what this means. If you leave now, you’re walking into danger unprepared.” Selena closed her eyes, breathing deeply. “And if I stay?” Sophia’s voice was steady. “Then you’ll learn to fight. To survive. And perhaps… to embrace what you are.” The weight of the choice pressed on her chest like a vice. She had spent days trying to decide between running and staying. But now, she realized, she was never just choosing between safety and danger. She was choosing between ignorance and truth. Slowly, she turned back to Damian. His golden eyes held nothing but quiet patience. Waiting for her decision. Selena swallowed hard. Then, with a deep breath, she spoke. “I stay.” And with those two words, her fate was sealed. A Dangerous Welcome Selena wasn’t given time to process what she had just committed to. Sophia rose from her seat, nodding. “Then we begin immediately.” Damian’s expression remained unreadable, but Xander let out a low whistle. “She doesn’t even know what she’s in for.” Sophia ignored him. “You will be moving to our safe house tonight.” Selena’s stomach dropped. “Tonight? You’re just making decisions for me now?” “You made your choice, Selena,” Damian said, stepping closer. “Now it’s my job to make sure you live with it.” A shiver ran through her. “So what happens now?” Sophia studied her, then answered, “Now, we test your blood.” Selena flinched. “What do you mean, test?” Sophia pulled out a small silver dagger, the blade glinting in the dim light. “We need proof. Real proof. If you are truly of the Blood Moon Line, your blood will react to silver differently than a normal human’s.” Selena’s pulse quickened. “And if it doesn’t?” Sophia’s lips curled into a knowing smile. “Then you’re just another human caught in a war you can’t win.” Damian tensed. “We don’t need to rush this, Sophia.” “We do,” Sophia shot back. “The rival pack won’t wait for her to be ready, Damian. We need certainty, and we need it now.” Selena exhaled shakily. This was insane. But at this point, what choice did she have? “Fine,” she said, rolling up her sleeve. “Do it.” Sophia didn’t hesitate. She pressed the blade lightly to Selena’s forearm, making a small incision. The sting was sharp but quick, blood welling to the surface. For a moment, nothing happened. Then, the cut sizzled. Selena gasped as a faint glow emanated from the wound. The silver trembled in Sophia’s hand, reacting to her blood like a drop of water on a burning skillet. Xander cursed. Damian stiffened. Sophia merely smiled. “There it is.” Selena stared at her arm, heart racing. “What… what does that mean?” Sophia sheathed the blade. “It means, my dear, that you are far more important than you ever imagined.” Damian’s gaze darkened. “And far more hunted.” The weight of his words settled over them all. Selena clenched her fists, ignoring the lingering sting of the wound. There was no going back now. She had chosen to stay. And whatever came next, she would be ready for it.
